Genoa Open Air Market

This Saturday in Genoa, is their Open Air Market on Main Street. The Genoa Open Air Market offers flowers, fresh produce, antiques, crafts and other great flea market finds. Stick around for the night and bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy a free outdoor movie, with free popcorn and other refreshments available for everyone. Sycamore Summer on State

This Thursday, June 24th, there will be a free outdoor screening of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs! in Downtown Sycamore. Based on the children’s book, this animated adventure follows a scientist who tries to solve world hunger only to see things go awry as food falls from the sky in abundance. This is the most delicious event since macaroni met cheese.

North Grove School Anniversary Celebration

The North Grove School Anniversary Celebration is this weekend in Sycamore. On Sat. June 26, 11am-4pm and Sun. June 27, 1pm-4pm, the North Grove School and grounds will be open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs and come out for a day of fun at the old North Grove one-room schoolhouse on Brickville Road.

Built in 1878 by Swedish farmers, the building was purchased by the township in 1880. In 1949, it was acquired by the Sycamore School District.

Tours of the grounds and lessons in the school, 1930 era cars on display, music, Bake Sale, Ice Cream Social with root beer floats and Hot Dog lunch available. Learn to play Jax and Maypole Dancing. For more information and a map to the school, please visit their website.

Meet Me Downtown DeKalb

Gather your friends and Meet Me Downtown in DeKalb on Thursday, June 24th from 5:00-7:00pm. There are many new and exciting things happening Downtown DeKalb. Take this opportunity to see the new and expanded businesses Downtown and meet the people who make those businesses happen.

More Sign Ordinance Changes

City of DeKalb will hold a special meeting to discuss changes to the temporary signage ordinance on Tuesday, June 22 at 8am at City Hall.

City officials and the Temporary Sign Review Committee will present the proposed changes to the Temporary Sign ordinance regulations.  The meeting will be held in the City of DeKalb Council Chambers, on the 2nd floor of City Hall, located at 200 South Fourth Street.

A full copy of the ordinance “DRAFT” is available on the City of DeKalb’s website, but we have included a copy of the changes below.  Everyone interested in reviewing the proposed changes should plan to attend.  Please call the Department of Public Works Administration Office at 748-2070 during normal business hours if you have any questions before the meeting.

A Taxing Budget History

This is my belated report on the City of DeKalb’s FY11 annual budget. I’m on the City’s budget advisory committee because I complained so much about City business the late Mayor Frank Van Buer appointed me.

Hawaiian Luau was a success!
