A Chumbolone is a Cook County transplant or perhaps even a Naperville wannabe who accepts endless tax increases and pervasive corruption; a chump, easily manipulated by Party Bosses. They’re the ones knocking on your doors, calling your phones and spamming you with propaganda to get your partisan vote in a non-partisan election. They’re liars and cheats with one hand in your pocket.
If someone is telling you to vote for or against a candidate because of their party affiliation you have met a Chumbolone. The candidates they back are Chumbolones, too, for tolerating the dishonesty. In DeKalb County our local consolidated elections are non-partisan.
Make your vote count in an all important local election on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Make it informed.

2. Jabroni is really an Italian profanity. It is slang.
BELOW is the Facebook exchange you speak of. Since Lynn UN-Friended me on FB, I can only get updates in random intervals. (She didn’t like my petition challenges)

Dear local Democrats: Do you have proof that 3rd Ward candidate Paulette Sherman is a scary crazy Tea Party member, or are you just trying to Wogen-ize her with your whisper campaign?
I am disgusted.

Steve Berg Paulette is a former student of mine. I have not followed the debates as my illustrious alderman is not up for re-election. While I do not always agree with Paulette, I think she is a capable and thoughtful person, and I have contributed to her campaign.

Last election in the 3rd Ward, I warned plenty of voters that the challenger Wogen was not the choice and as much as I wasn’t crazy about the incumbent, I felt the incumbent to be the better choice.
I have advised many of those same voters t…o vote for Paulette if they are serious in correcting problems at city hall. It might just be that many in that ward would feel empty if they didn’t have someone in office to complain about on a regular basis.
Would this be the affects of a Victor Wogen withdrawal?

Lynn, I appreciate you defending me as well as everyone else here. I actually called Kristen and confronted her about it in the hopes that I could at least stop it from this point forward. She admitted it was her people and apologized, but …I still feel like the damage has been done. It does seem a little hypocritical from a candidate whose platform revolves around honesty, integrity, and transparency, but I guess there is not much I can do about it now except hope that after wogen people will not appreciate the negative campaigning and personal attacks…

A volunteer of mine heard this rumor while knocking doors. They (very unwisely) repeated the rumor to two other people. I did not know anything about this until Paulette called me about it yesterday. When I confronted my volunteers and foun…d out what happened, I called Paulette back and apologized for the actions of that volunteer.
However, this rumor did not start with my campaign. Any insinuations that more than the actions of this one volunteer are coming from me or my campaign are insinuations at best, and negative campaigning at worst.

(I really don’t like how facebook has changed the comments to press enter to post. 😉 )
I, and I hope Paulette, would really like to keep this campaign focused on the issues. I would also like to thank those who stood up to defend Paulette …against negative attacks, as they have no place in our political process. I hope that this can be put behind both of us and that we can go back to focusing on our ideas for our community.

Well, when you called me yesterday you did not say any of that, but rather said that it was, in fact, your volunteers. It was relayed to me by numerous people that this rumor was floating around. I do not want to belabor the point, I simp…ly would like the rumors and negative attacks to end. Throughout this campaign I have stuck solely to the issues and so have all of my volunteers. I have remained positive and focused on city issues. It was my hope that my opponent and any volunteers walking on her behalf would do the same. All I would like to see happen now, is for the air to be cleared and for us to move forward and refocus on the important issues facing the city. I would really like to put all of this to rest. As I said before, the best I can hope for, is to stop any negative campaigning from this point forward. Regardless of the outcome on April 5th, I am very proud of the campaign I have run and stand behind everything that my volunteers and I have said. Thanks to everyone who has been and continues to be supportive of my campaign. I hope the next 9 days are filled with great conversations about city problems and how to solve them.

Craig, I am pretty sure that Steve is in the 2nd Ward with Tom Teresinski.
It is too bad that rumors were floated and that a volunteer trying to help someones campaign would actually believe that continuing the rumors would help their candid…ate. What is sadder though is that more people will listen to a rumor instead of finding the truths out for themselves. Factual information is so accessible today and most candidates themselves are more accessible today than ever before. Stop spreading rumors and get yourself informed. There are many sources locally that have been consistenty correct with information the make public. Learn how to trust these sources and in addition go one step further, take a little more time to verify that information for yourselves. Make your vote count for the right person for the right reasons.

Steve Berg I do not see any real evidence that City Hall understands the perils facing this city due to the corruption and imploding tax base. I had to deal with a declining tax base, a horrible lack of decent paying jobs, and a crumbling infrastructure in several cities where I worked in the past. The people in charge here seem to think that if they can keep the lid on for 6 more months or so, that it will be back to business as usual. I don’t expect to see business as usual again in my lifetime. We shall see who is right about this.

Craig Roman Steve that is why I am running for the county board, if we can influence manufacturing here to DeKalb County, we can slowly get rid of all the foreclosures, increase home ownership and possibly lower taxes for all, if I can’t do that in 2 terms you won’t have to vote me out I will not run

Ivan Krpan Craig, trying to be realistic about matters, how do we here in DeKalb or as DeKalb County get business to come here when stepping back and looking at a bigger picture our Governor and state legislature are scaring businesses from Illinois. Several more announcements over the past few days is sadly just a tip of the iceberg. Many are doing the math and looking at other, more business friendly states.

Ivan look at my FB page, I said that would be troublesome and if CAT leaves if Jimmy Johns leaves then Quinn has to answer to that, we have to fix Washington, we have to Dix tax loopholes, we have to make it fair and equitable for all, why …do billionaires pay less tax then I do?? I have grander plans I have to win one of these races I run!

You are frightenly to the point Steve. Here is another example of how scary this economy is and how bad the housing market is and will continue to be. Many people swear by Suze Orman and her investment teachings. She is very well respected …in her field and always has advised her clients and students on how important real estate is to ones investment portfolio and ones own personal home. Suze is now saying NOT to buy homes because there are more homes available than there are people buying. Prices are falling and more homes are owned by banks now then ever before. Suze also goes on to say that there is no immediate change in sight and it could be many more years before homes actually start selling again in a profitable manner.
Now, with this and everything else we are seeing, 6 months more of keeping the lid on the major funding shortfalls seen here locally within our city government is definitely just postponing the inevitable.
All government must stop spending, stop building and start making necessary cuts. We must learn to do more with less in government. Courthouse expansion needs to be halted immediately, night court needs to be researched further. City of DeKalb should put a moratorium on all public projects having to do with buildings and office expansions. Actually consolidating offices and space should be looked at and privatization of every possible service offered by the city and county should be looked at. That is private businesses are doing right now and for several years in many cases and just about every household has already started making cuts and sacrificing.
This is why so many people’s stomachs are turning with respect to pavered walks and parking lots, property purchases wth homes and businesses on them razed to empty, non/producing bare lots, a fake ice rink gathering dust in a corner somewhere dark and dreary, a sidewalk to nowhere, multiple properties purchased over the years for a police station which really never had a real chance of being built, $1 million spent by a school superintendent for land when voters said NO, or spending over $90 million on a new high school when a well thought out designed school which was fitted to todays needs and designed for convenient future expansion could have easily lightened the debt load of our local community by $30 to 40 million easily.
Steve you are so right about not getting back to normal in our lifetime, it is just a pure shame, really criminal, that we are handing this financial doomsday to our children and grandchildren. What a legacy we are leaving. See More

another example. Chumbolones!
Correction: I didn’t like your SELECTIVE challenges or the innuendo when I called you on it. Also: you don’t make points by dragging my FB stuff on here without regard for my feelings, either. FAIL.
oops, that was supposed to be addressed to Mark.
Lynn, it’s too bad you can’t simply debate a difference of opinions instead of taking your baseball bat, ball and bases and going home. Where in the rule book does it state that one must either challenge all or none of the petitions? Provide me with a link. These are the petitions I chose to examine. Other individuals challenged some of the other petitions. No need to be redundant. I value accuracy when it comes to the electoral process and rules need to be adhered to to the letter of the law. You could have got involved but you chose to sit on the sidelines. Your prerogative.
Jusr saw your screed on chumbolones. And what do you call people who want to destroy the public sector so they don’t have to pay taxes?
These are legitimate political differences of opinion, not some sort of sneaky tactic.
Labeling is common in politics, but it is not a way to promote the discourse that you pretend to want to promote.
Herb
Guilty conscience, Herb, or did the image in the mirror frighten you? Yes, yours are sneaky tactics that have nothing to do with legitimate political differences of opinion but rather, as MSantos pointed out, only about protecting the old boys network. These are non-partisan elections. You should be ashamed.
If you want to promote better discourse, Herb, you should remove “screed” from your political vocabulary.
Hmmmm .I’m curious to find out more….Please name names
Mark, there are some real sleeze bags in positions of influence in the local Democratic party who have used their party’s machine in canvassing in wards and the 428 race. One of the tactics employed was to paint their candidates’ opposition as “Extreme Right Wing Tea Partiers” who are out to “destroy the public sector.” I don’t think Cook County politics will play in DeKalb but in low turnout anything can happen. I haven’t talked to a single candidate or a single citizen for that matter that wants to destroy the public sector. Shameful.
Larger voter turnout would better counter La Machine, but until that happens we should definitely call out that kind sleazy campaigning whenever we see it.
