The DeKalb County Board met for its May meeting on Wednesday, the 18th. The Board voted and approved a new supervisor of assessments in anticipation of the retirement of long time Assessor, Margaret Whitwell. Robin Lynn Brunschon will serve as the County’s new Supervisor of Assessments.
Additionally, the Board approved for discussion the new boundary lines for the 2012 County Board District Map. (Click here for an interactive look). There will be an additional meeting for public and member input on June 7, at 6pm on the proposed boundary lines.
Lastly, the County Board failed to pass a resolution urging our local legislators to work on passing a bill to allow for the issuance of conceal and carry permits for firearms in Illinois.
Coming up for next month, the new County Highway Engineer Nathan Schwartz will assume his new duties as longtime Highway Engineer, Bill Lorence retires. Additionally, the first installment of the property tax bills are due on June 3.

Effective June 1: Civil Unions
On June 1, 2011, the DeKalb County Clerk’s office will begin to issue Civil Union Licenses. If you are interested in seeking this license, please visit our online resources to find out what forms of identification you will be required to present, learn more about the process, and stay up to date with our FAQ section.

Watching the County Board as they determine the boundaries for the next 10 years is also on our list in the office.
