Update: Friday, December 2, 2011, began the petition filing period for all established party candidates seeking nomination in the March 20, 2012 Primary. About 15 candidates were on hand as the office of County Clerk & Recorder opened at 8:30 AM.

Over the course of the next week, candidates will have the opportunity to file nominating papers in the office to have their name placed on the ballot. The last day to submit nominating petitions is 5 PM on December 5, 2011.

The benefit of filing petitions at 8:30 AM allows those that file at the same time the opportunity to enter a lottery to determine who will be placed on the ballot first in the primary. All other filings are placed on the ballot in the order they are received.

One such race exists; States Attorney for DeKalb County will undergo a lottery at a forthcoming date to determine the ballot placement of the two primary candidates vying for that office.
