The Anthropology Museum announces the opening of their next exhibition, Curated by DeKalb: 50 Years of the Anthropology Museum at NIU. Please join them for a reception beginning at 4pm this Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014, featuring refreshments and live music in Cole Hall on the NIU campus.
The Anthropology Museum at NIU is also celebrating its 50th anniversary! Founded in 1964, the Anthropology Museum has engaged students, faculty and visitors for five decades with the material record of cultural diversity and innovation around the world. Now home to over 20,000 ethnographic and archaeological objects, the Museum has planned anniversary celebrations to remember our history, strengthen our campus and community relationships, and spotlight the contemporary relevance of anthropology.
This exhibit is a community co-curated exhibition that highlights the depth, richness, and contemporary importance of the Museum and NIU. All of the artifacts on display in Curated by DeKalb were selected by NIU campus or community members, creating a collaborative exhibit that brings together NIU students, faculty, staff, local business owners, and DeKalb residents. Curated by DeKalb is about the people in our community, the cultural objects that inspire them, and the connections that the Anthropology Museum can inspire. Through the eyes of friends and colleagues, visitors will be inspired by the breadth of human achievement and innovation that are represented right in DeKalb’s own Anthropology Museum.
