Held in three locations throughout the weekend, however, NOT simultaneously. You may go to the location available based on your family’s schedule of arrival. Pick up any tickets you may have pre-ordered; get directions for the Self-Guided Tour (SGT), Amazing Dog Sled Race (ADSR), Bike tours, have your questions answered, see the office home of Huskie Family Connections.
Check in is “Fall Family Weekend Central.”
- Fri. from noon to 4:00 at Campus Life building (CLB)
- Fri. from 5:00-8:00 at the Holmes Student Center (HSC)
- Sat. from 9:00-2:00 at CLB
- Sat. from 3:00-5:30 at the West Stadium field HFC Tailgating tent
Pre-Paid Events – Ticket sales will close at midnight on 9/11/13.

The Amazing Dog Sled Race
Participate as a family team to follow clues leading to NIU campus highlights. Collect the “token” at each site and return to the Verification table at Check-in locations to submit your evidence of being there. This event can be done throughout the weekend; families self-pace. If scores tie, prize winners will be drawn at random from the pool of highest scoring families. Prizes announced at Closing Ceremonies on Sunday. Need not be present to win. Each family member participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Entry fee $20 per family.

Huskie Family Connections Tailgating–
Sat. 21st, 3:00-5:30 pm. HFC tent located inside the fenced area for the Oktoberfest Beer Garden. A Check in table will be located here.
- HFC Tailgating Grill by Whitman’s Catering – Ticket price includes 2 sandwiches (choice of burger, brat, or chicken breast), sides, non-alcoholic drink, and dessert. Save on a Family Pack of food tickets. Food is Pre-paid ticket only, no cash sale food will be available in HFC tent.
- Come join us to Huskie-up for the football game with tailgate games and prizes. .
- Live music at Oktoberfest (sponosored by NIU Athletics) before and after game. Oktoberfest will have cash food and alcohol sales.

Huskie Football Game Home-Opener-WHITE OUT –
Join us in cheering the Fabulous Huskie Football team to victory against Eastern IL.
It is the White Out game, so wear white Huskie Spirit attire.
Kick-off is at 6:00 pm.
Please read carefully before you purchase tickets. Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE.
There are 2 ticket options:
- East Side tickets are in the Student Seating Area. If you would like to sit on the same side of the stadiu
m as your NIU student, then you should purchase East Side tickets. NIU student tickets for this section are FREE and can be picked up the week of game at the Convocation Center (must show One Card).
- West side tickets are all reserved seating. Your NIU student cannot use the One Card to get a ticket on this side of the stadium for free. If you choose the West Side seating and you would like to sit with your student, you will need to purchase a ticket for your NIU student.

Enjoy a scenic tour of DeKalb or the NIU campus by touring on bicycles. Maps will be provided at check-in and also available to download. You can bring our own bikes or rent them from Outdoor Adventure. Prices to rent are 20.00 dollars for the weekend. You will need to rent a bike for the weekend and pick them up on Friday. Contact Outdoor Adventure at 815-753-9423 with any questions.
Enjoy a self-guided tour around DeKalb or the NIU campus with your family on foot. Maps will be provided at check-in and available to download.
One of the best-kept secrets at NIU is the Davis Hall observatory, which overlooks the East Lagoon. Look through the telescope to see Mars and stars up close! Located in Davis Hall Room 703 off Normal & Locust Road.
Visit NIU’s Art Museum to see local and famous artist work. The current exhibit titled “On watching and Being Seen”. This group show of twenty-eight artists explores the roles of the voyeur and the exhibitionist, especially through the impact of social media and surveillance technology. How we define what is private and what is public (or what we think should be) has ramifications in our feeling engaged, threatened, or ambivalent. Use digression with children, this exhibit may be explicit and inappropriate for children. The Art Museum is open Saturday from 12:00pm – 4:00 pm. It is located at 116 Altgeld Hall.
Experience cultures from around the world at NIU at the Anthropology Museum. It houses over 12,000 different textiles, objects, and artifacts from South East Asia, New Guinea, South West Native Americans and many more. The current exhibit is titled “Trowels and Fair Trade: Revealing the Underground Railroad and Contemporary Slavery”. The Anthropology museum is open Saturday and Sunday from 12:00pm – 4:00pm.

Ellwood House Museum
Tour the famous house of Isaac and Harriet Ellwood, the Ellwood House Museum. Learn about the history of DeKalb, the Ellwood’s and barbed wire. Tours are available Saturday and Sunday tours at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and 3 dollars for children. contact Donna Gable at 815-756-4609 with questions.
Glidden Homestead –
Tour the famous house of Joseph and Lucinda Glidden who partnered with the Ellwood’s to invent Barbed wire that changed the nation. Learn about the history of their lives, DeKalb history, and watch a blacksmith in action. Tours are Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:00pm. Tickets are $4.00. FREE Events – RSVP not required but appreciated
Tour one of NIU’s 35 laboratories where students can get first-hand experience in areas ranging from digital signal processing, robotics, microelectronics to welding. Tours are Saturday 10:00 am -10:45 am and 11:00am – 11:45 am. Reservations are appreciated but not required for this event. To RSVP
ACRO Pancake Brunch
The Neman Center is hosting a Pancake Breakfast for Fall Family Weekend. Eat and enjoy pancakes while supporting Huskie Alternative Break. This is a program that allows students to spend their spring break serving their community in a positive way. Reservations are appreciated but not required. To RSVP.
