A meeting planned for DeKalb’s City Council discussion on the development of an Annie Glidden North Revitalization Plan has been postponed. This meeting, which was originally scheduled as a Special Committee of the Whole discussion for Wednesday, June 7, will be rescheduled and the new meeting date will be publicized.
The City has been working on the development of an Annie Glidden North Revitalization Plan pursuant to the direction of the Mayor, the City Council and the DeKalb 2025 Strategic Plan.
The City previously issued a Request for Proposals for the plan and based upon the responses, City staff has been preparing for the conduct of a Special meeting with the City Council, in a Committee of the Whole format, to discuss the project.
As the costs of the project represent an expenditure of public funds, staff has been working diligently to identify ways of attaining the desired project outcomes while minimizing expenditures.
As the City is involved in discussions to coordinate the scope of the project, the special meeting is premature. The meeting will be rescheduled within the next 30-60 days. Questions regarding the Annie Glidden North Revitalization Plan or the meeting cancellation may be directed to the City Manager’s Office at (815) 748-2090.

We haven’t heard much yet about it either. We know they keep talking about it being a ‘food desert’ up in that area. It’s unclear if the City of DeKalb, Illinois is looking at road improvements or area improvements to us at this point. We’ve tagged them in this post… perhaps someone there could clarify? –GM
This is not a new plan. It’s been forming for some time. I believe it fair to say those involved on behalf of NIU have more influence on plans than anyone at the City of DeKalb to date. I think the details will change as they are presented and if so that’s unfortunate because redevelopment is needed but it should be market driven rather than publicly financed attempts to restore NIU’s enrollment.
Thanks DK online, that helps a bit.
What food desert? Schnucks is under two miles away.
What is the Annie Glidden North plan? What are the goals?

I read the article, but it doesn’t say what the plan is or is trying to be.
