Donut Dash 5K Run, EPIC Band, and Fireworks in Sandwich

The Sandwich Park District and Sandwich BP Country Market will be hosting a Donut Dash 5K Run / Walk, Live Band and Fireworks on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Sandwich Fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road, Sandwich, IL. Check in / registration for the Donut Dash 5K Run / Walk will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the race at 3:30 p.m. Donuts will be provided following the race by Country Market. Pre-Registration Fee: $20.00 Registration Fee Day of Race: $28.00. Join in for a free Zumba Demonstration following the Donut Dash.  This will be held at the Sandwich Fairgrounds beginning at 4:30 p.m.  Instructor will be Olivia Gray.

Epic is an ’80′s rock tribute band. Epic was formed in 2004 in the south suburbs of Chicagoland. They are a cover band that plays music from popular 80′s rock groups. Their set includes familiar songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, Poison, REO, Van Halen, Bryan Adams and more. The band will play from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. near the grandstand.

The main gate for the fireworks will open at 5:00 p.m. The Lisbon Street gate will be open for walk-ins. Suggested donation is $5.00 a carload. Donations help to defray a small portion of the fireworks cost. Food vendors will be available near the grandstand. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. or dark. Maple Park Fun Fest Weekend

Maple Park Fun Fest is a classic small town festival geared for big time entertainment. Always occurring over Labor Day Weekend, Fun Fest has provided the perfect way to celebrate summer’s end for over 10 years. Visitors enjoy live entertainment, a huge arts and crafts show, car show, 5K Fun Run, Parade, some of the very best fireworks around, and of course, the famous Toilet Bowl Races – those are just a few of the highlights!

Both children and adults will find plenty to do all weekend long. Whether it’s participating in the Kid’s Bike Parade, visiting the Fire Station for Touch-A-Truck, or just hanging out in the beer garden enjoying delicious food, Fun Fest will provide a glimpse into the charming community of Maple Park.

There will be come high energy softball games, crafters and vendors,  a great food and beer garden and a fun parade. On Stage Saturday is: 1:30 – Destination Unknown, 2:45 – Drift Away, 5:pm –  Hillbilly Rockstarz, 9pm – Hi Infidelity. On Stage Sunday is: 2:30 – PK & the Groove, 5pm – Back Country Roads. Maple Park’s Spectacular Fireworks Show will be at 8:30pm Sunday.

Wednesday’s 4th of July Celebrations

DeKalb’s 4th of July Celebration

Bring chairs, blankets, games, and appetites for an afternoon and evening with family and friends at Hopkins Park at 1403 Sycamore Rd. in DeKalb. Food booths from many favorite local caterers, grills, and vendors will be on sight in the early afternoon hours. The DeKalb Municipal Band will perform in the bandshell before and during the fireworks. Fireworks at dusk are co-sponsored by the DeKalb Park District and City of DeKalb.

Kirkland’s 4th of July Celebration

Kirkland’s 4th of July Celebration continues with a parade at 11 AM Wednesday. At 12 noon – 10pm the lunch stand, bingo, flea market and carnival rides are open for the day. A live band Enroute will play from noon -3pm in the beer tent. There will be a magic show, a dance show and pedal pulls. From 6pm – 8pm watch The Couch Coins Band and from 6pm – 9pm the Blooze Brothers play live in the beer tent.  At 9:30pm are Kirkland’s Fireworks with their Raffle Drawing following the Fireworks.

Shabbona’s 4th of July

Shabbona’s celebration  includes a Lions Club Pork Chop Dinner from 4:30 – 7:00pm. Fireworks are at dusk, sponsored by the Shabbona Fireworks NFP Committee.

Sycamore Speedway’s 4th of July Celebration

Stock Car Racing Special Event, all classes. Races start at 7pm, Time Trials start at 6pm, Gates open at 4:30pm.  Large Firework Display after the races.

Sycamore Speedway’s 4th of July Extravaganza

This weekend starts Sycamore Speedway’s “4th of July Extravaganza”.  They are racing 5 times in 9 days!  This weekend they race Friday with the Demolition Derby and Saturday is the Firecracker 44. The Firecreacker 44is 44 laps on the 1/2 mile for the Super Late Models.

On Wednesday, 4th of July the Sycamore Speedway has their explosive firework display.  All classes stock car will be racing with large firework display. Shows starts an  hour earlier; gates open at 4:30, time trials 6:15 pm and racing at 7pm.

They close up the series of racing 2 days later with Friday racing and then Saturday, July 7th, the inaugural Sycamore Motorsports Rally. Motorcycle Racing is back at Sycamore Speedway. This all day special event will feature :

Shabbona’s Hometown Festival this Weekend

Please join the Shabbona Hometown Events Committee and the community in celebrating our country’s Independence Day by participating in Shabbona’s 2012 Main Street Parade, followed by Shabbona’s Hometown Festival.  The parade kicks off at 10am this Saturday, June 30th and runs through the Village of Shabbona.

The Shabbona Hometown Festival is a favorite among residents and visitors alike. Browse the tents and booths of local merchants for many types of arts and crafts. Carnival rides, moon walks, inflatable slides, magic shows, music and games of all sorts are sure to delight kids of all ages. Be sure to check out the petting zoo, which is always a big hit. Several food vendors will have booths on-site with a variety of offerings. An ice cream eating contest, puppet show and water fights bring back memories of old time festivals.

Come out Sunday from 10am-4pm for the Screamers Car Show. Then on Wednesday, July 4th, Shabbona’s Fire Department is having an  “All You Can Eat” Pancake Breakfast and the Lions Club is doing a Pork Chop dinner. Wednesday evening at dusk are Shabbona’s fireworks at the beautiful setting of Shabbona Lake State Park. Genoa Days Continues

The fun starts tonight in Genoa as they kick off their 77th Annual Genoa Days, sponsored by the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department. Genoa Days runs from Wednesday, June 13 through Saturday, June 16, 2012 and features carnival rides from Skinners Amusements and nightly entertainment.  Both the Carnival and Bingo, sponsored by the Genoa Lions Club, start each evening at 6pm. From 6-10pm tonight there will be a DJ from WPKJ playing. The Genoa Days King & Queen Contest will be at 8:00pm tonight on the main stage.

On Thursday, June 14, the band Tow will play from 6:30-9:30pm. Thursday is also Family Night. Kids wristbands for the carnival rides are only $15 each from 6pm-10pm. Friday June 15 come hear The Infringements from 6:30-9:30pm.  At 9:45pm Friday watch the awesome first fireworks of the summer at Chamberlain Park!

Maple Park Fun Fest Weekend

This weekend is the annual Maple Park Fun Fest. Come to Maple Park for three days of fun this Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Saturday kicks off with the Romp in the Park 5K Run/Walk at 7am and Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball at 8am. The Crafters and Vendors open at 10am and go until 6pm. The food and beer garden open at 11am. The annual Fun Fest bike and wagon parade starts at 12:30 Saturday on Main Street. There will be horse-drawn wagon rides from 1-4pm.

The truely unique 7th Annual Toilet Bowl Challenge will happen on Main Street at 1pm and is always fun to watch. From 2-5pm Saturday will be the Firefighter Experience at the firehouse. The Maple Park Idol Competition will be held starting at 1:45 on the main stage Saturday. Also on the stage Saturday is Hillbilly Rockstarz at 5pm and Red Woody at 9pm.

Sunday’s stage includes The Menagerie at 2:30 and Back Country Roads at 5pm. Maple Park’s spectacular Fireworks show will be Sunday night at 8:30pm (rain date is Monday). For more information about the Maple Park Fun Fest please see their complete schedule here.

Fireworks & Vintage Baseball With The Liners This Weekend

If you haven’t been to a DeKalb County Liners Collegiate Baseball game yet, this is the weekend to go. The season is winding down and they have two great promotions going on this weekend.

FIREWORKS! Yep! You heard that right! After the Liners game tonight, Friday, July 22nd, they’ll have a fireworks display for you, the loyal Liners fans. So, come on out and see the guys light up the scoreboard and then watch fireworks light up the sky. That’s Friday, July 22, at 7:05, when the DeKalb County Liners take on the Lorain County Ironmen.

Second promotion … old-tyme baseball! What IS that? Well, it’s baseball the way it was played way back in the 1860s, including uniforms and NO GLOVES!! On Saturday, July 23rd at 5pm, the Somonauk Blue Stockings and Creston Regulators will play an exhibition game prior to the Liners game against the Lorain County Ironmen at 7pm. If you’ve never seen baseball played this way … you’re missing out on a piece of history!

Waterman Summerfest & Antique Tractor Show Saturday

The Waterman Lions will hold their annual Summerfest and Antique Tractor Show on Saturday July 16, 2011 at Waterman Lions Park in Waterman. This is the 11th year of the annual one-day event that brings together owners of antique tractors, crafters and flea market concessionaires along with civic organizations with booths promoting their activities. Admission is free to this fun, small town event.

The day’s events begin with a French Toast Breakfast at 7am. Other events include: Antique Tractor Show, Parade of Power, Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull, Craft Show/Flea Market, Train Rides, Petting Zoo, Kid’s activities, Draw-Down Raffle, All Day concessions, Lion’s Club Pork Chop BBQ, Hayrides, Magic Show at 2:30, Live Bands, Beer Garden and Fireworks.

Live music will include from 2:30-5pm, Trumans Ridge Bluegrass Band and Kish-Wau-Keys Barbershop Quartet. Brian Lavender & Whiskey Bent Band will play from 8-11:30pm. The Beer Garden will be open from 3-11:30pm. Fireworks will begin about 9pm. For a complete schedule of events please click here.

The show has attracted a wide variety of antique farm equipment exhibitors and continues to grow each year. A Championship Garden Tractor Pull and Summerfest Princess contest has been added for 2011. Waterman Lion Park is located at 420 S. Birch St. in Waterman.

Sandwich Freedom Days

At 4pm Sunday the downtown fun at Sandwich Freedom Days comes to an end and at 5:30pm the activities resume at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. Watch a vintage baseball game, food, DJ and more. Kirkland’s 4th of July Weekend

Kirkland’s 4th of July Weekend continues tonight, Sunday July 3rd with Cooter Brown live  on stage from 6-10pm, vendors, food, bingo and carnival rides. The Shabbona Main Street Parade will kick off at the Shabbona High School at 10am Saturday morning.  The parade captures the essence of both America’s freedom and small town rural living with proud participation from our local military heroes, American Legion, fire departments, farmers, and local clubs and businesses.

The Hometown Festival – Rides, Games, Inflatables, Vendors and fun for all ages will run from 10:30 – 3:30  on Saturday in Doc Purdy’s lot. At 1:30pm there will be an Ice Cream Eating Contest sponsored by Screamer’s Ice Cream. Kids Water Fights sponsored by Shabbona Fire Department begin at 2:30.

On Sunday, July 3rd there will be a Bags Tournament beginning at 1pm as well as the Fire Department Over-Head Adult Water Fights. From 10am – 4pm come check out the Screamer’s Car Show, located at Screamer’s Ice Cream & Restaurant.

Monday, July 4th kicks off with the Shabbona Fire Department’s pancake breakfast from 7am through 11am. The Lions Club pork chop dinner will be serving from 4:30-7pm. The Shabbona fireworks display begins at dusk at Shabbona Lake State Park and is sponsored by the Shabbona Fireworks NFP Committee. Kirkland 4th of July Celebration

Kirkland has long been known for hosting an excellent small town, high energy Independence Day Celebration. This will be Kirkland’s 62nd year for holding their 4th of July Celebration. All kinds of activities will be going on Friday, July 1st through Monday, July 4th.

Friday kicks off at 5:pm with food vendors, flea market and carnival rides. From 6-10pm Jamie’s Karaoke will bring in the fun and bingo will be open. The Queen’s Contest is at 7pm Friday evening. From 8-12pm, Durty Mojo will play live in the beer tent.

Saturday starts out with the Methodist Church breakfast at 7:30am. There will be a Tractor Show going on all day Saturday for the farm enthusiasts. The beer tent, food vendors, flea market and rides open at noon. During the day Saturday there will also be a puppet show, pep band, science and magic shows and a storyteller. Shuvlhed takes the stage Saturday at 8pm.

Sunday is the Car Show beginning at 8am. Food, flea market, beer tent and rides run from 12noon to 10pm Sunday. The always exciting Fire Department water fights start at 2pm. Sunday, the Kirkland / Hiawatha elementary school will host an open house from 2-5pm. There will be bellydancing, a police Fatal Vision and K9 Demo, and Kyler the Magic Man on Sunday. Cooter Brown takes the stage Sunday from 6-10pm.

On Monday, the 4th of July, there will be a pancake breakfast from 7-9:30am. The Kirkland Parade kicks off at 11am. Beer tent, food vendors, bingo, flea market and rides are open from noon to 9pm. Enroute will take the stage at noon in the beer tent Monday. The Kirkland / Hiawatha elementary school will again host an open house from 2-7pm on Monday. At 4pm there will be pedal pulls to watch as well as Rollin Whiskey taking the stage until 8pm.
