County Government’s Annual Garage Sale

DeKalb County Government’s Annual Garage Sale is this Friday, June 24th from 9am to 4:30pm. There will be a preview of items from 8am-9am that day.

Designated items are prices at $5, $10, $15, $20 and up. Many miscellaneous items are priced cheap, cheap, cheap for a quick sale. Some items left over at 4:30 will be given away free (except Sherriff’s forfeited items). Sherriff’s forfeited items prices firm at market value.

County surplus items will be sold such as office furniture, desks, chairs, 2,3,4,& 5 drawer filing cabinets, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, combo fax/copy/printer, two 52 slot mail sorters, bookcases, bicycles, magazine tables, double cabinet with counter top, tv’s, etc, etc.

The County Garage Sale will be held at the DeKalb County Highway Department Garage at 1826 Barber Greene Rd. in DeKalb. Look for location signs. For more information please call Mary Simons at 815.895.1636.

DeKalb Rotary Garage Sale Friday & Saturday

The DeKalb Rotary Club is holding a garage sale extravaganza to benefit ShelterBoxUSA. ShelterBoxUSA rushes disaster relief to anywhere in the world hit by flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, and tornadoes. Each box contains a tent for up to ten people, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity kit and other vital items. $1000 is the cost for a box, shipping and delivery. DeKalb Rotary raises funds as well for numerous DeKalb organizations throughout the year. Actually, DeKalb Rotary has been working to support DeKalb community organizations for 90 years!

The DeKalb Rotary Garage Sale will be at at R.P. Lumber, across from the Kishwaukee Country Club, this Friday and Saturday, June 10th and 11th, from 9am to 3pm.

The community is encouraged to participate in this event, both by shopping and by donating items for the sale. They  will accept almost anything except clothing and electronics. Arrangements can be made to have items picked up before the sale. DeKalb Rotary will pick up your garage sale items from your home or office, or items can be dropped off at the storage building across from RP Lumber (the old Pierce Harley Davidson building) prior to the sale date.
Following are some guidelines for what constitutes a garage sale item: Clean and gently used items in working order Children’s clothing only, no adult clothing household goods games, toys, sports equipment, office items, Christmas décor, tools, unused wallpaper rolls, partially used perfumes, aftershave, containers of spray paint, WD-40, unused party good such as paper plates, plastic ware, napkins, craft items, indoor and outdoor furniture, costume jewelry, books and just about anything you don’t want anymore.  Please, no outdated electronics or TVs.  The proceeds from the garage sale will go toward the ShelterBox Project (homeless disaster victims). ShelterBox provides emergency shelter for 500,000 survivors each year. For more information please call 815-787-0800.

 

Habitat for Humanity Garage Sale this weekend

Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County is having it’s Annual Garage Sale this weekend, August 27, 28, 29 at 160 West Lincoln Highway, next to Subway and across from Castle Bank. Come help them help others and get some great stuff for yourself.

Today, Thursday, August 26th from 12pm – 6pm anyone can drop off donation items for the sale. On Friday, drop off and sale will run from 9am to 6pm. On Saturday, drop off of donations from 9am to 12pm and Garage Sale runs from 9am to 6pm. On Saturday the Sale runs from 9am – 6pm. Sunday is Super Bargain Day with the sale running from 9am to 12pm. If you are interested in volunteering for this event please let them know by emailing habitat@tbc.net.

Habitat for Humanity works with families in building decent, simple, affordable homes for those in need in DeKalb County. They operate with a volunteer board of directors and volunteer committees. They are always looking for people interested in being on their committees and board.
