Hinckley Pound the Pavement 5K, Car Show & Pet Parade

hinckleypoundthepavementCome to the 2nd Annual Hinckley Parks and Recreation “POUND THE PAVEMENT” 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Pioneer Park in Hinckley, Il.  Race check-in starts at 6:30am  and start time is 8:00am. 5K Run/Walk registrations received after May 24 are $20. Registration for those 10 years and under on the short track is $15. Registration forms are available online at hinckleyil.com ,click on Parks and at the Village office or area businesses.

This Sunday, June 9th, the Village will host a Car Show, Pet Parade and more at Pioneer Park by the HBR Grade School.  There will be an 8 am Pancake Breakfast hosted by Hinckley Lion’s Club. Then, from 8am-2pm take a look around the Hinckley Lion’s Club Car Show.

At 10am will be the Hinckley Pet Parade. Check in time is 9:30am. Awards will be awarded by 11am. Pet’s will be judged and awarded in different categories like Cutest Tail, Fluffiest, Best Groomed, and many more. Pet Parade Application here.

From 11:30am-12:30pm, make your own kite. Kits will be provided by the HBA. At 11am until 12:30pm participate in fitness sessions to include, Yoga, Hi-Impact and Toning. At 1 pm will be a kite flying demonstration and a time to fly your own kite.  Breakfast and Lunch will be available for purchase that day. Hinckley Community Tree Lighting & Breakfast With Santa

This Friday, November 30th at 6:30 pm is the Hinckley Community Tree Lighting at the Hinckley Community Building. The Hinckley Girl Scouts will sing carols until Santa’s arrival by fire truck.  After Santa lights the large evergreen tree everyone is invited to go inside for refreshments, crafts, drawings, and activities sponsored by Hinckley Parks and Rec and the Hinckley Public Library. The Hinckley Community Building is located at 120 Maple Street, in Hinckley, Il..

On Saturday, December 1st from 9am-12pm, join in the Breakfast with Santa at the Hinckley /Big Rock High School. Cost to attend is $2 per child and the child must be accompanied by an adult.  Enjoy treats and get your picture taken with Santa!

 

Antique Appraisal Event

Mark Moran will be at the Hinckley Community Building this Monday, October 8th from 6pm-9pm for an antique and collectibles appraisal event! This event is co sponsored by The Hinckley Public Library and The Hinckley Historical Society. There is NO Charge for this event but preregistration is required if your are bringing items for appraisal.

Mark Moran is a former senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola, Wis. He has also been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine and a guest expert on the PBS series Antiques Roadshow. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including the 800-page annual Warman’s Antiques & Collectibles, now in its 45th edition.

Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana, and fine art. He has been active as an appraiser of antiques and fine art for more than 20 years.  Light dinner and refreshments will be provided by the Hinckley Historical Society.

Hinckley Music in the Park

Come listen to Wooden Rockers this Tuesday, August 14th from 6-8 pm in Hinckley for the Hinckley Music in the Park.  Featuring Dennis Owen (the H-BRES Principal), John Daly, and Gary Schmidt.  This 3 piece acoustic group brings back 3-part harmonies to songs of the 60′s & 70′s.  Offered in conjunction with Hinckley Business Association‘s Ice Cream Social in Pioneer Park.

There are refreshments available for purchase. There is no cost to come out to the park and listen to the music. Pioneer Park is located on Route 30 at the far west end of the village, adjacent to the Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary School.

Hinckley’s Raise The Roof 5K Run and Party in the Park

Hinckley will be doing it up right this Saturday, June 9th at their Raise The Roof 5K Run/Walk & Party in the Park. Held in Hinckley’s Pioneer Park on West Rt. 30, the run/walk will start at 4pm and sign-in begins at 3pm. The 5K proceeds will support the construction of a picnic shelter at Garfield Park.

There will ba a Party in the Park following the 5K with post race awards, music, local food vendors and activities starting at 5pm. Bring your friends and have dinner in Pioneer Park and be part of ‘raising the roof’ and this great community event. Check the Village website for complete registration information for the 5k Run. Hinckley Music in the Park

Come out to Hinckley this Tuesday evening, May 29th, at 6:30 p.m. for Music in the Park.  Matt Marzuki (The Welcome Matt) and friends help “Kick Off the Summer” with the sounds of classic rock and roll.  Second Time Around will start the summer concert season with classic rock ‘n’ roll.

All the fun will happen at Pioneer Park on West Rt. 30 in Hinckley.  Bring your own lawn chairs and refreshments.

Memorial Day 2012

Come to the DeKalb Memorial Day parade in Downtown DeKalb starting at 9am on Memorial Day Monday, May 28th. Join them on the grounds of Ellwood Museum after the Memorial Day Parade from 10:00am-noon. Celebrate, remember and reflect upon our country and the heroes that made us great. The Mansion will be open free of charge following the Memorial Day Parade and the service.

Crank It Up in Hinckley

‘Crank It Up’  is a Hinckley Community Fundraiser to purchase a permanent sound system for the Hinckley Community Building. Rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit while giving back to the community. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is… if any! Your participation in this energized event will help them reach their goal. Grab a friend to share the fun and support a great cause. Bring your tennis shoes, water bottle, sweat towel, sense of humor and enthusiasm.

Crank It Up will be held this Sunday, Sunday, April 22nd, from 12:30-3pm at the Hinckley-Big Rock High School Gym. Ticket price is $10. There will be a Zumba Dance Party at 12:30 followed by a session of Yoga which will conclude at 2pm. Periodically activity will pause for drawings of donated items.

The second part of the event will encourage participants to wind down and browse, sample or purchase the wares of area vendors. There will be jewelry, homemade soaps, candles, purses, perfumes, home scents and much more. Blood Pressure checks and bra fittings will be available.

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, sit back and prepare to be entertained at Pioneer Park in Hinckley this Tuesday night!  There are refreshments available for purchase.  There is no cost to come out to the park and listen to the music.  Also as a bonus on Tuesday, August 9th the Hinckley Business Association will host their Annual Ice Cream Social.

Hinckley Music in the Park is held by the grade school, right along Rt. 30 on the West side of town. In case of rain the change of location will be posted at the park entrance by 6:00pm the night of the performance.  The Wooden Rockers are scheduled to play from 7:00 PM to 8:30, but may start a bit earlier. Refreshments will be available for a small fee. In case of rain the change of location will be posted at the park entrance by 6pm the night of the performance.

On July 21st, Hinckley will host the band Second Time Around.  Also as a bonus on Tuesday, August 9th the Hinckley Business Association will host their Annual Ice Cream Social. More information Here.

Memorial Day Around DeKalb County

Show your appreciation for the U.S. men and women who died while in the military service by attending Memorial Day events around DeKalb County this coming weekend.

Come out and help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Northern Illinois Memorial in Kirkland at 1pm on Sunday, May 29th. The Marine Corp. League and the Boy Scouts will be present. Cash awards given to 3 students. As in past years, food will be available on site. The Northern Illinois Memorial is located at the corner of South St. & Third St., in Kirkland.

Memorial Day starts out early with the 2011 Mayors’ Memorial Day Breakfast from 6:45am-8:00am on Monday, May 30th.  The breakfast will be held at the Carls Fargo Restaurant, 335 W. State St. in Sycamore. The cost is $10.00 to pay at the door. To RSVP and pay only $8.00, email ffb66@juno.com and a form will be sent back to you. This is a great way to start Memorial Day off before going to the ceremonies around the County.

There will be a Military VIP Motorcycle Escort for LTC David A. Dosier starting at 8am in Sycamore, going to the Joiner Cemetery. Services at the Joiner Cemetery will be at 8:15am.

In DeKalb, the Memorial Day activities start out at 8:30am with a Memorial Tank Service at the corner of North First Street & Lincoln Highway. At 9am the DeKalb Memorial Day Parade steps off at North Third Street and Lincoln Hwy. For more information on the parade, contact Patti McAdams in the DeKalb City Manager’s office, 815-748-2090. The Parade will end at the Ellwood House at 9:30am where their Memorial Day Program will include a brief address by a Military guest speaker; a Roll Call of Fallen Illinois Service Members; American Legion School Awards; as well as musical selections by the Good News Quartet, DeKalb High School, Clinton Rosette and Huntley Middle School Marching Bands.

Ellwood House tours will be offered from 10:00am to 12:00 noon free of charge. Groups will be led by a docent though the mansion. There are a maximum number of visitors allowed in a group, so there may be a slight wait as we try to accommodate all who wish to tour the mansion. Additional parking is available at the First Congregational Church at 615 N. First Street.

The Malta Memorial Day Service will begin at 10am on Monday at the Malta United Methodist Church, S. Third and Sprague Streets. Lt. Col. David Dosier will be the guest speaker and special music will be included in the program. Veterans of the community are invited to pay tribute to those who have fought in all of the nation’s wars, by marching as a unit from the church to Malta Township Library, where a wreath will be dedicated.  Any veteran wanting to participate is asked to meet at the church by 9:30am. Flags will be handed out to children at the close of the service for those wanting to march to the library.

Trick or Treat Hours Around DeKalb County

Trick or Treat hours around DeKalb County are all on Halloween this year, which is this Sunday, October 31st. Be sure to have your children go in groups of 3 or more and as always, be aware of their surroundings. Remember to have your candy on hand too!
