Motorcycle Riders Sought for Holiday Motorcade

Motorcycle riders are wanted for a Motorcycle/Motorcade Military VIP Escort on Monday, Memorial Day, May 27, 2013 at 7:55am starting in downtown Sycamore, Illinois. Riders will meet near Route 64 and California St., by the movie theater no later than 7:45am. (2 wheelers, 3 wheelers, 4 wheelers and all wheelers welcome). The Motorcade will be escorting Major General Emile P. Bataille (USA Ret) around DeKalb County.

Major General Emile P. Bataille United States Army Retired (MG Bataille USA Ret) retired off of Active Duty in August 2004 after 34 years of service in the US Army and Reserve Components. His last assignment was as the Director for Combat Support at the United States Strategic Command in Omaha Nebraska. He managed a staff of over 1000 and was responsible for a budget of over $150M. He  was responsible for a range of assets from multiple communication’s satellite constellations, to developing procedures for Military inter-Service computer network systems defense, to multiple security levels of computer system networks for the Command.

He led his staff to formulate and implement  Joint policies, concepts, and readiness for the Command’s command, control communications, and computer systems, The US STRATCOM mission is to provide the means for the National Command Authority to command the Nation’s strategic forces. General Bataille was also the Command’s senior logistics officer responsible for all logistical operations plans and procedures. On 9/11, he provided communications support to President Bush’s critical visit to US STRATCOM to assess the National situation after the morning attacks. He was the first Army General Officer to serve at the US Strategic Command in over 30 years.

Boy Scout Clean Up Cemetery for Memorial Day Services

cemetarycleanupOn Saturday, 05-11-2013, the Sycamore Boy Scout Troop 40 and a few adults cleaned up the Joiner Cemetery in preparation of the scheduled Memorial Day Service on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th, 2013 at 8:15am. Major General Emile P. Bataille (USA Ret) will be the Keynote Military VIP speaker at that event. Since 2005 several members and adults from Troop 40 have helped clean-up the cemetery. The cemetery is located west of Sycamore on West Old State Road just east of Five Points Road.

Major General (MG) Bataille will start his day at the Mayors’ Memorial Day Breakfast, Jane Fargo Hotel, 355 W. State St., Sycamore, IL., from 6:45am to 7:30am. There will be a short program after the breakfast and he will be leaving before 8:00am to speak at the Joiner Cemetery. The public is invited to the breakfast and the cemetery. To get a RSVP prepaid $10.00 ticket for the breakfast contact Frank Beierlotzer ASAP but before Friday, 05-24-2013 at email ffb66@juno.com or phone 815-758-5788. If not prepaid it will be $15.00 at the door.

Weather permitting, MG Bataille will have a Motorcycle Escort starting at 7:55am from Jane Fargo Hotel in Sycamore. The escort will go from Sycamore (7:55am) to Joiner Cemetery, (8:30am) to DeKalb for their parade, (9:20am) to Malta for their ceremony, parade & wreath laying and (11:00am) to Genoa for their parade & ceremony. MG Bataille will also be speaking at Malta (10:00am) and at Genoa (Noon).

Memorial Day 2012

Come to the DeKalb Memorial Day parade in Downtown DeKalb starting at 9am on Memorial Day Monday, May 28th. Join them on the grounds of Ellwood Museum after the Memorial Day Parade from 10:00am-noon. Celebrate, remember and reflect upon our country and the heroes that made us great. The Mansion will be open free of charge following the Memorial Day Parade and the service.

Veterans Memorial Day Services

Brigadier General Steven P. Huber

Brigadier General Steven P. Huber (ILARNG) has been invited by the DeKalb County Forty et Eight Voiture 207 to be the military VIP guest speaker for several events during the 2012 Memorial Day Weekend. He will start Memorial Day at the Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast.

The Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast will be held at the Jane Fargo Hotel, 355 W. State Street in Sycamore on Memorial Day, Monday morning, 6:45am – 7:30am, May 28th, 2012.  Brigadier General Steven P. Huber will be the military VIP guest speaker. To attend the breakfast, contact Frank Beierlotzer at ffb66@juno.com, RSVP prepaid is $10.00. Pay at the door is $15.00.

From there Brigadier General Steven P. Huber will be escorted by motorcycles to all of the following events: He is the guest speaker at the Joiner Cemetery at 8:15am on West Old State Road just east of Five Points Road. He will be in the DeKalb Memorial Parade at 9:00am, guest speaker at the Malta Methodist Church at 10:00am,  in the Genoa Memorial Day Parade at 11:30am and be the guest speaker at the Genoa Cemetery at noon.

Memorial Day Around DeKalb County

Show your appreciation for the U.S. men and women who died while in the military service by attending Memorial Day events around DeKalb County this coming weekend.

Come out and help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Northern Illinois Memorial in Kirkland at 1pm on Sunday, May 29th. The Marine Corp. League and the Boy Scouts will be present. Cash awards given to 3 students. As in past years, food will be available on site. The Northern Illinois Memorial is located at the corner of South St. & Third St., in Kirkland.

Memorial Day starts out early with the 2011 Mayors’ Memorial Day Breakfast from 6:45am-8:00am on Monday, May 30th.  The breakfast will be held at the Carls Fargo Restaurant, 335 W. State St. in Sycamore. The cost is $10.00 to pay at the door. To RSVP and pay only $8.00, email ffb66@juno.com and a form will be sent back to you. This is a great way to start Memorial Day off before going to the ceremonies around the County.

There will be a Military VIP Motorcycle Escort for LTC David A. Dosier starting at 8am in Sycamore, going to the Joiner Cemetery. Services at the Joiner Cemetery will be at 8:15am.

In DeKalb, the Memorial Day activities start out at 8:30am with a Memorial Tank Service at the corner of North First Street & Lincoln Highway. At 9am the DeKalb Memorial Day Parade steps off at North Third Street and Lincoln Hwy. For more information on the parade, contact Patti McAdams in the DeKalb City Manager’s office, 815-748-2090. The Parade will end at the Ellwood House at 9:30am where their Memorial Day Program will include a brief address by a Military guest speaker; a Roll Call of Fallen Illinois Service Members; American Legion School Awards; as well as musical selections by the Good News Quartet, DeKalb High School, Clinton Rosette and Huntley Middle School Marching Bands.

Ellwood House tours will be offered from 10:00am to 12:00 noon free of charge. Groups will be led by a docent though the mansion. There are a maximum number of visitors allowed in a group, so there may be a slight wait as we try to accommodate all who wish to tour the mansion. Additional parking is available at the First Congregational Church at 615 N. First Street.

The Malta Memorial Day Service will begin at 10am on Monday at the Malta United Methodist Church, S. Third and Sprague Streets. Lt. Col. David Dosier will be the guest speaker and special music will be included in the program. Veterans of the community are invited to pay tribute to those who have fought in all of the nation’s wars, by marching as a unit from the church to Malta Township Library, where a wreath will be dedicated.  Any veteran wanting to participate is asked to meet at the church by 9:30am. Flags will be handed out to children at the close of the service for those wanting to march to the library.

Help Needed for Cemetery Clean-Up

The Joiner Restoration Committee will have two clean-up days in May. The first one is this Saturday, May 15th at 10:00am. The rain date is Saturday, May 28th at 10:00am.  Since 2005 several members and adults from Boy Scout Troop 40 of Sycamore have helped with the clean-up. They can always use more volunteers to help.

There will be a short Memorial Day Service at the Joiner Cemetery held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th, 2011 at 8:15am. The location of the Joiner Cemetery is West of Sycamore on West Old State Road just east of Five Points Road. Saturday: Memorial Weekend Steak Dinner – Join the Genoa Veterans Home for it’s Memorial Weekend Stead Dinner at 6pm on Saturday, May 29th at the Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. in Genoa. Cost is $12/person.

Sunday: Memorial Day Ceremony in Kirkland

Monday: Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast - Major William L. Hotopp (who has served in the military for 24 years, including as a Green Beret, serving seven overseas tours in Central America, Southwest Asia and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and being decorated 28 times) will meet with several Mayors, other officials and the public on Memorial Day, Monday morning May 31st, at the Carls Fargo Restaurant, 355 W. State Street, Sycamore. The breakfast starts at 6:45am with a united prayer at 7:15am followed by a short program so everyone can be out of there before 8:am to go to other Memorial Day events. The breakfast is open to the public and is $8.00 RSVP & $10.00 pay at the door.

Memorial Day Parade in DeKalb – Observances begin at 8:30am at the Memorial Tank at First Street and Lincoln Highway. Veterans participating will join the parade, the check in for which begins at 8:30am at North Third Street and Lincoln Highway, with step-off at 9am. The parade will end at 9:30am at the Ellwood House. At Ellwood house there will be a short program. There will be some music by Huntley school. After the program, DeKalb Park District will host a reception in the visitors center, especially for veterans, and will offer refreshments. The museum will offer free tours of the house following the program.

Sycamore Memorial Day Parade & Service – Join Sycamore for its Memorial Day Parade at 10am at the Sycamore Veterans Club, 121 S. California St. The parade will conclude at the Ellwood Cemetery for the Memorial Day Service.

Malta Memorial Day Service – 10am at Malta United Methodist Church, S. Third and Sprague streets. Major William L Hotopp will be the guest speaker and special music by the Barbershop Quartet will be included in the program. Veterans of the community are invited to pay tribute to those who have fought in all of the nation’s wars, by marching as a unit from the church to Malta Township Library, where a wreath will be dedicated to the Veterans of World War I.
