Resource Bank awarded $10,000 in scholarships to ten graduating high school seniors throughout DeKalb County. Each year, the Centennial Service Award is given to those students that exhibit a strong sense of community pride and are highly involved in volunteer work and community service activities.
Resource Bank is proud to announce the recipients of $1,000 from the Class of 2013:
Matthew Allen, DeKalb High School, dedicated his time to the Eagle Scouts and participated in many community projects including renovating the dog runs at and providing money for mobile cat carriers to TAILS Humane Society. Jacob Alstadt, Somonauk High School, dedicated his time to the Eagle Scouts and served his community through several projects including building a bridge in a local forest preserve. Dallas Boehne, Indian Creek High School, volunteered time at the N.I.C.E Center food pantry, participated in numerous fundraisers, and dedicated time to help the needs of children and elderly in her community. Jaylene Jennings, DeKalb High School, prepared meals for Hope Haven and Feed My Starving Children and dedicated many hours to beautification projects throughout her community. Beth Klein, Hinckley-Big Rock High School, worked many hours with Opportunity House, Feed My Starving Children, and spent significant time on church and cemetery beautification projects.
Maxwell Kruse, Genoa-Kingston High School, prepared meals at Feed ‘Em Soup and Feed My Starving Children and coordinated an Eagle Scout service project at Russell Woods. Jacob Marx, DeKalb High School, dedicated his time with to the Eagle Scouts and participated in a project to build a children’s activity area inside Feed ‘Em Soup called “Lexi’s Corner”. Jacob plans on majoring in Political Science and Communications in college. Lydia Moore, Sycamore High School, dedicated time to Big Brother and Big Sisters, packed meals for Feed My Starving Children, and travelled to Montana on a youth mission trip to work with children on a Native American reservation. Ariel Russell, Indian Creek High School, volunteered with the N.I.C.E Center food pantry and worked with the Indian Creek CCC (Community Concern for Children). Laura Smith, Sandwich High School, volunteered with Kendall County Operation Snowball and Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program and has been involved with the children’s ministry of her church. Congratulations to all of these outstanding graduates.



The Sandwich Park District, the Sandwich Historical Society and the 10th Illinois Regiment are offering several events to commemorate the 151st Anniversary of the Civil War this Friday through Sunday, April 19th – 21st. An encampment will be held at Knights Park in Sandwich and is a free event depicting an authentic civil war camp. Tents, artillery, campfire and more can all be found at Knights Park, 1001 North Latham Street in Sandwich this weekend.

Join them at Timber Creek in the Top Shelf as they welcome back the Dueling Pianos for this high energy, all request, sing along, clap along, rock n roll, comedy piano show where the audience is just as much a part of the show as the entertainers. Featuring a surprising mix of music and parodies that range from rock to country, pop to swing, and rap to TV tunes their songs come from the ’30s thru the ’90s and beyond. They have the songs, the spontaneity, the humor, the dancing, the interaction, the sing-a-longs… and most importantly, the fun. So don’t miss out.
The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion show will be at the Sandwich Opera House this Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 at 8pm. Kevin and Cindy Spencer present a high-tech stage show with special effects, cutting-edge illusions and knee-slapping comedy. Theatre of Illusion is not your run-of-the-mill magic show and the Spencers are not your typical magicians. By blending the theatrical elements of a Broadway-style production with the high energy of a rock concert, these artists take their audience on a journey to the brink of impossibility… and back again.
The public is invited to get your ‘Garage Sale’ on this Saturday in the middle of winter at the big Sandwich Indoor Garage Sale. This community event, sponsored by the Sandwich Park District, is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 25th, 2013 at the St. Paul’s Parish Center, 340 W. Arnold Road in Sandwich. Concessions are available for purchase during the sale.
