Beth Fowler Dance Company Presents Sleeping Beauty

The Beth Fowler Dance Company of Genoa and St. Charles will present the Sleeping Beauty ballet at the Egyptian Theatre this weekend. With the beautiful dancing, costumes and stage sets, this classic ballet will tell a story that everyone will enjoy.

The ballet based on a classic fairy tale is a masterpiece of dance drama created in the 19th century through a collaboration of ballet master Marius Petipa and Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky. The ballet is now seen and heard throughout the world, delighting young and old with the magic and wonder of the young Princess who slept 100 years and is awakened by the kiss of a Prince.

Company member Zoe Hamilton will dance the title role as Princess Aurora. She has performed many principal roles for the Beth Fowler Dance Company, most recently as the Snow Queen in this season’ s “The Nutcracker”. Guest artist Brian Connor will perform as Prince Florimundo. He is in the dance program at NIU and performed recently as the Nutcracker Prince in the Beth Fowler Dance Company’s production of “The Nutcracker”.

Other principal dancers are company members Miranda Simek as the Lilac Fairy and Molly Smith as Carabosse, who portray the struggle between good and evil. The Bluebird pas de deux in the wedding scene will be performed by company dancers Larry Pool and Hannah Smith, who is the current reigning Miss Illinois.

Beth Fowler Offers Summer Dance Camps & Auditions

The Beth Fowler School of Dance is offering one and two week Dance Camps in July and August for ages 3 through advanced levels. There are Dance Camps for all levels and ages with a free dance performance on the last day with provided costumes.

“Creative Dance is the perfect program for young dancers.  We have 4 levels of creative dance for dancers at the ages of 3 to 6.  It is a pre-ballet class which gives them the tools they need before progressing into other forms of dance”, stated artistic director Beth Fowler.

Once the students reach age 7 their programs consist of Ballet, Contemporary Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop.  At age 9 the dancers add Lyrical and at age 12 they add Modern and Pointe if they are ready for it.

There are also special summer dance camps for dancers that are older and just beginning.  This provides a “crash course” so those dancers can catch up to their age level before fall classes begin.  The advanced summer camp in August includes auditions for those dancers wishing to audition for the Beth Fowler Dance Company.  Beth Fowler School of Dance now has 2 Locations in Genoa and St. Charles.
