Waterman Summer Rec Opening Day

watermansummerrecSaturday, May 18th is Waterman Summer Rec Opening Day. Opening day activities will start with the annual parade at 10am with festivities to follow at Waterman Lions Community Park. There will be a fundraising raffle with some amazing prizes, games, pictures and concessions. They will have  exhibition games, team pictures, bouncy slide and train rides for tons of fun. On top of cash prizes, they are also raffling a 32″ Insignia TV, a Keurig and over a hundred other items! Come participate in a fun day for all! Help support the teams and join them for the day.

Continue to support the teams by attending a game, weeknights at five fields; at Waterman Grade School, Indian Creek Middle School and Waterman Lions’ Community Park. Waterman Lions Park is located at 420 S. Birch St., in Waterman, IL, 60556.

Waterman Town Wide Garage Sales & Recyling Day

citywidegaragesaleJoin them in Waterman for their All Town Garage Sales!! The sales will be, Friday April 26 8am-5pm, and Saturday April 27 8am-3pm. Maps will be available at various garage sale locations. Visit the, on Facebook at Waterman Town Garage Sales.

Also Saturday in Waterman, is the area’s e-cycling day. On the fourth Saturday of each even numbered month electronics will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. (or until the trailer space is filled) at the Waterman City lot on Route 30 9-11 a.m.. Anything that plugs into a wall socket or has a battery is accepted.

Kites Over Sycamore & The Easter Train

eastertrain13Let’s go fly a kite! The folks at Kar Free Flowers hope you’ll join them at Kites Over Sycamore for all of the kite flying fun this Saturday of Easter weekend between 10am and 3pm. In their conservatory make and decorate your own bumble bee or sled kite, plant a pumpkin seed, and enjoy cotton candy and popcorn. At high noon is their Kite Fly in the Sycamore Park annex just behind Kar-Fre Flowers. Fly the kite you make, bring your own kite, or just come watch the fun! Kites Over Sycamore is a free, family-fun event, but there is a slight charge for the sled kite kits. Kar Free Flowers is located at 1126 E State Street, in Sycamore, IL.

Join in the Easter Train on the Waterman & Western Railroad – aka Pete’s Train in Waterman also this Saturday, Mar 30, 2013 between the hours of 12:30 – 5pm. Easter Egg Hunts This Saturday Abound

easteregghuntThe Easter Bunny will be busy hopping all over DeKalb County this weekend in 2013!  Sycamore, Kirkland, Genoa, Waterman, Sandwich, Somonauk and DeKalb are all having Easter events for the kids this year. Just in case you want to hop along with him, we’ve provided links to the locations of each below. Enjoy!

Sycamore Breakfast With the Bunny
Welcome the Bunny to Sycamore and commemorate the event with breakfast, pictures and art projects this Saturday, March 30. Due to the popularity of this event, breakfast is now offered at two times. The event will be held at the Sycamore Park District Golf Course Clubhouse, 940 East State St..  Click here to learn more about the breakfast.  The breakfast will be finished in time for the Egg Hunt sponsored by the Sycamore Police Department, held at the Good Tymes Shelter at 10:00 a.m. Visit the Sycamore Park District website.

25th Annual Sycamore Police Dept. Easter Egg Hunt
Please bring your own baskets this Saturday at 10am for the Sycamore Police Department Easter Egg Hunt. See the Easter Bunny and Meet McGruff!! There will be three age levels with prizes in each level. For kids 10 years old and under. In case of bad weather listen to WLBK 1360AM radio on the morning of March 30th for any changes. Meet near the Good Tymes Shelter, on the East side of the Sycamore Park off Airport Rd..

Kirkland Easter Egg Hunt
The Kirkland Lions Club will hold it’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, March 30th at 1pm at the football field behind the Hiawatha High School, weather permitting. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the High School gym.

9th Annual Genoa Park District Easter Egg Hunt
Kids grab your basket and fill it with eggs and candy and maybe find a special prize egg. Children will be separated by age groups for more fun. The Easter Bunny will be out also so bring your camera. The egg hunt will go fast so don’t be late. This is a free event. The event will be this Saturday, March 30th at 10:00 am for ages 4 and Under and 10:30 for ages 5 and above. It will be held at Chamberlain Park on W. 2nd. Street, in Genoa.

The Annual Waterman Lion’s Club Easter Egg Hunt
All Waterman Elementary and Preschool children are invited to attend this Easter Egg Hunt in Waterman at the Indian Creek Middle School (south gym). Children will search for eggs, win prizes, and visit with the Easter Bunny. The Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 starting at 11:00 a.m..

Annual Sandwich Spring Egg Hunt
Mr. Bunny will visit the Sandwich Sprint Egg Hunt this Saturday March 30th, starting at 9:30am sharp. Bring your camera for a wonderful opportunity to take a keepsake photo. The Egg Hunt will take place at James Knights Park, 1001 N. Latham Street in Sandwich. Children will separate into groups for ages 3 years and under, ages 4 – 5 and ages 6 – 9. This is a FREE event with no pre-registration required.

Somonauk Easter Egg Hunt
Community Park will be the site of a Saturday, March 30, egg hunt, sponsored by the Junior Women’s Club. Games, prizes and cookie decorating will be featured, with activities beginning at 11:30 a.m. Community Park is located on S. Gage St. in Somonauk.

DeKalb Easter Egg Hunt at Hopkins Park
Join in the fun and the hunt as children discover those colorful eggs filled with treats that have been hidden around Hopkins Park by the elusive Easter Bunny. Please come dressed for the weather and bring a bag or basket for gathering eggs. Participants can turn in their plastic eggs for treats. For Toddlers thru 4th grade. Free to attend. In the event of a major weather concern the event will be moved to Haish Gym for egg scrambles. Please call the Haish Gym at 815.756.8560 the day of the event no earlier than 9am to confirm change of venue. Saturday March 30th at 10am at the Hopkins Park Shelter, 1403 Sycamore Road, in DeKalb.

Indian Creek Summer Ball League Registration

indiancreekrecThis Saturday, January 12th is the Indian Creek Summer Ball League Registration from 9-11am. This year there will be continued collaboration between Indian Creek Recreation and Waterman Summer Recreation in running the local ball league programs. This joint effort will create a great opportunity for the children to learn how to play and enjoy baseball/softball and meet new people in the combined school district.

The T-Ball Programs will continue to be run by both organizations. The Softball League for both Waterman and Shabbona will be run by Indian Creek Recreation while Waterman Summer Recreation will run the Baseball League.

To simplify registration the will hold joint registration dates for both leagues. Registration will be held as follows:

Saturday, January 12th, 9 – 11am at the Lions Depot, 105 Illini Street, Shabbona
Saturday, February 2nd, 9 – 11am at the Waterman Community Building, 160 W Lincoln Hwy, Waterman

Holiday Lights Train Begins

Pete’s Train, otherwise known as the Waterman & Western Railroad, kicks off the annual Holiday Lights Train today in Waterman, Il. See over 250,000 lights and figures while you ride on the one mile, 1/3 scale miniature railroad thru-out Waterman’s Lions Community park. There will be free popcorn & hot chocolate in the heated train station.

The Holiday Lights Train runs weekends thru December. Kids can meet Santa every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in December, starting on 11-30-12. The Holiday Lights train opens tomorrow, Saturday November 24th, 2012 and runs on Fridays from 5:00 – 9:00 PM, Saturdays 2:00 – 9:00 PM and Sundays 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Camp Kind Festival

Three days, two nights and 23 bands. This is the weekend of the Camp Kind Festival in Waterman, Il.. From their website: Camp Kind (Aug. 10-12, 2012) is a music and arts festival centered around community, peace, wellness, humanity, kindness and love. “We believe in enriching lives by providing an intimate festival experience that is high in quality as well as accessible and affordable.”

The home of Camp Kind is also known as the ‘The Beat Pharm’ and is the home of Daniel Lynn, bassest of the band, Machine Gun Moses. For one weekend every year, they give up their home and the surrounding farm property in Waterman, IL and turn it into a festival ground. Artists from the all over the Midwest come to provide entertainment and share their crafts. True to their name, they try their best to embody a spirit of charity and positivity.  Camp Kind’s main goal is to raise support for the annual charity. This year, they are helping Feed’Em Soup. Camp Kind is asking that every attendee bring canned goods and/or clothing to help those in need. Of course monetary donations are helpful as well.

Waterman Summerfest and Antique Tractor & Farm Equipment Show

The Waterman Lions are getting ready for their 12th Annual Summerfest and Antique Tractor and Farm Equipment Show which will be this Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Waterman Lions Park. The day will begin at 7am with a french toast breakfast and runs all day, ending with a fireworks display at 9pm. New to this year’s show is the Northwest Illinois Chapter of American Historical Truck Association and their traveling museum, a vintage base ball game and a Cowboy Fast Draw Contest. Come see tractors, trucks, scale models, engines, food booths, crafts, bands, kids events and other family orientated Summerfest activities.

The Championship Garden and Mini Tractor Pull will run from 10am-4pm. It features most classes of garden tractors. The annual parade of antique tractors will be held around 12noon. Other planned attractions includ Dixieland band Barb City Stompers playing from 2:30-4:45pm, jam sessions by Northern Illinois Bluegrass Association, crafter/flea market booths, petting zoo, Waterman & Western train rides, Lions Club food concessions, kiddie tractor pull, kids games and and other family activities. The Lions will draw names in its draw-down raffle at 5 p.m. Pub West will host a beer garden starting at 3 p.m.. The bands Destination Unknown will play from 5:45 – 7:45 and The Party Doctors take the stage from 8pm – 11:30pm.

Memorial Day 2012

Come to the DeKalb Memorial Day parade in Downtown DeKalb starting at 9am on Memorial Day Monday, May 28th. Join them on the grounds of Ellwood Museum after the Memorial Day Parade from 10:00am-noon. Celebrate, remember and reflect upon our country and the heroes that made us great. The Mansion will be open free of charge following the Memorial Day Parade and the service.

Garage Sale-a-palooza Weekend!!

This first weekend in May is starting out with three great garage sale venues in DeKalb County. Head out to Cortland this Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th for their town-wide Garage Sales. Maps will be available around town. Waterman Town-Wide Garage Sales will also be this Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th, from 8am – 5pm. Sponsored by the Waterman Business Association.

Kishwaukee Kiwanis’ Rummage Sale will be held May 4th from 8-5 and May 5th from 8-3, at the Hopkins Park Shelter House. The majority of clothing items and shoes are $1.00. Friday prices will be as marked. Saturday 8-1 prices will marked half price and after 1:00 whatever you can fit in a grocery bag will be $4.00.

On May 2nd and 3rd you may drop off items at the Hopkins Park Shelter House between the hours of 1pm and 6pm. DO NOT leave items unattended. Hopkin’s Park is located at 1403 Sycamore Rd. in DeKalb. For additional information see their website at www.kishkiwanis.org.

Holiday Lights Train Opens Saturday

The Waterman & Western Railroad’s Holiday Lights Train opens this Saturday, November 26th, at 5pm. Otherwise known as Pete’s Train / Waterman & Western Railroad in Waterman is a 1/3 scale miniature railroad in Lions Community Park in Waterman, Illinois. The train ride is one mile long through Waterman’s Lions Community Park. Giant toy soldiers, candy canes, cascading snow flakes,  flying reindeer, and swans swimming, just a few of the displays you’ll see on the Holiday Lights Train.

See over 250,000 lights and figures. Free popcorn & hot chocolate in the heated train station. Kids meet Santa every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in December. Santa Arrives on Friday, Dec. 2nd at  6:00pm.  Open Fridays 5:00 - 9:00pm, Saturdays 5:00 – 9:00pm and Sundays 4:30 – 8:00pm in December.  The Holiday Lights Train is located at 435 S.
