This Sunday, September 9th, is the 8th Annual DeKalb Kite Festival. Held in the North 40 field on the NIU Campus, at the corner of Kishwaukee and Lucinda in DeKalb, the DeKalb Kite Festival is great family fun. There will be stunt kites, dancing kites, fighting kites, and kites of all sizes to watch and enjoy. You’ll see kites like you never imagined including a head-turning display of three, 90-foot-long octopus kites called octopile. Other kites will include: stunt and dancing kites, Mimi the Pink Ladybug, Teddy Bear, owl, manta ray and cat kites.
Some of the area’s best kite-fliers and kite-builders will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate their skills. DeKalb Kite Fest 2012 offers plenty of space for participants to fly their own kites. Bring a kite, make a kite or buy a kite from ChicagoKite/Kite Harbor Kite Shop, which will be on-site.
This year Kite Fest will feature a candy drop, TAILS animal petting, give-aways, kite-making for children and games. Food and activities for all ages can be found at the festival. Ride your bike down the bike path along the Kishwaukee River for a fun day out or bring a chair and sit and enjoy the fun. Admission is free to this great community event.
