Visitors to the Genoa’s Open Air Market may come home with a new friend. Genoa Main Street will provide everything needed to build your own scarecrow. The construction will take place during the market’s regular hours from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 22. The market is located at the intersection of Main (Route 72) and Genoa Streets in downtown Genoa.
“Building a scarecrow has become a popular tradition for many families,” says David Glaum, a Main Street volunteer helping prepare wooden heads and frames. “We not only supply the frames and heads, but also a selection of clothes and straw for stuffing. Most people build their scarecrow at the market, but you can also take home all the parts and put it together there.
“The complete scarecrow is only $20,” continues Glaum. “All proceeds benefit downtown improvements and public events.”
The September 22 market’s nearly 50 vendors will offer fresh produce, locally baked bread, honey and cheeses, crafts, new items, flea market finds, well-know brands and unique products. Lunch and sweet treats will be in good supply. Downtown merchants also will hold sidewalk sales during market hours.
