The Beth Fowler Dance Company of Genoa and St Charles is in last minute rehearsal for a new original dance production “A Storybook Ballet.” The ballet created by Beth Fowler was inspired by the stories of Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. It will premiere at DeKalb’s Egyptian Theatre at 7:00pm this Friday March 15th with additional performances Saturday March 16th at 2:00 and 7:00pm and Sunday March 17th at 2:00pm.
As the curtain opens, young Marie is getting ready for bed. When her mother reads Marie a bedtime story, the magic begins. As Marie falls asleep, for Tinker Bell Fairies fly into the room and spin her bed as she falls into a magical dream where the storybook grows to 10 feet high. Snow White and her friends step out of the book into Marie’s world. The bedroom is transformed into Snow White’s forest where she meets her forest friends the Seven Dwarfs and is frightened by the Jealous Queen and tormenting bats. Snow White is saved when she finally meets her Prince.
Delighted by the happy ending Marie turns the page of the giant storybook to be greeted by Ariel, The Little Mermaid and her sister mermaids. Marie’s bedroom turns into a beautiful undersea scene with a variety of fish, clams and coral. Ariel is saved by Prince Eric from the Sea Witch Ursula’s evil spell.
After a short intermission, the story continues as Marie turns pages twice more to bring out the characters of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast to tell their stories, Finally Marie’s bedroom transforms back as she awakens and wonders if it was all just a dream.
