The Stage Coach Players will produce Jesus Christ Superstar this weekend and next, starting this Thursday, March 14th at 7:30pm. Jesus Christ Superstar, the first rock opera created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent ‘60s, has at it’s center, a political and social rebel in the character of Judas. The play centers on the conflict between Judas and Jesus during the week before the crucifixion. Judas questions the radical teachings, popularity and motives of this new prophet and ultimately betrays him.
Concentrating on the final days of Christ’s life, Jesus Christ Superstar dramatizes the story with intensity and explosive theatricality. Accompanied by a thrilling and driving rock score that is tender and memorable, Jesus Christ Superstar shows the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion story that goes straight to the heart. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lyrics by Tim Rice, Directed by Jan Kuntz, Musical Direction by Judy O’Connor.
“I saw Jesus Christ Superstar on stage in the 1970’s and do not remember it to have touched me anywhere near how I feel as I watch this production. I can hardly wait for the first audience. I hope it will touch them as much as it has touched me. If you are considering attending you need to get your tickets now. I know that at least one of the performances is totally sold out.” said past Stage Coach Board President Susan Johnson.
