The first shoots of green in the spring are exciting but unpredictable. If it’s cold or hot, the crop will vary greatly. Join Jo Cessna, Healthy Culinary Instructor, as she explores whatever spring crops pops up. Could it be rhubarb, beets, radish, green garlic, Swiss chard, scallions? Our cooking techniques are challenged as we create a wonderful variety of dishes. Spring Crops is May 30, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, in the Valley West Medical Office Building. $10 per person. Tasting and recipes provided. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. A minimum number of participants are required. Prepared Childbirth Weekend Express

This class discusses pregnancy, labor, delivery and post-partum in a one class format. Please bring 2 – 3 pillows to class. Instructed by certified childbirth educator. The class is $20 per couple. The class is June 1, from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, at Valley West Community Hospital. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. Diabetes: Self-Management

Learn the latest in diabetes care with an emphasis on the positives. Take the initiative now to control your diabetes and not allow it to control you. The class meets June 3, 6 – 8 pm, June 10 & 17, 6 – 9 pm, in the Valley West Medical Office Building. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. Community Blood Drive

Valley West Community Hospital hosts a community blood drive on June 4, from 1 – 5 p.m. in the Valley West Medical Office Building. Donating blood is completely safe, and organizations like the Heartland Blood Centers rely on volunteers for support. Help save lives by giving a meaningful gift this holiday season. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Appointments can be made online or by calling Sue Morgan at 815.498.9467.

Blood Pressure Clinic

Valley West nurse volunteers offer free weekly blood pressure checks at Valley West Community Hospital every Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Just walk in, no registration is required.
