The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) have recognized Kishwaukee Hospital and the KishHealth System Breastfeeding Center for excellence in lactation care.
Kishwaukee Hospital has received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® certification and providing a lactation program that is available five to seven days a week for breastfeeding families. In addition, the facility demonstrated that it has provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff who care for new families, and have recently completed activities that help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Judy Bergsmith, RN, KishHealth System breastfeeding coordinator said, “It’s an honor to be recognized with the IBCLC Care Award. It’s very exciting to have the privilege of working within a health system that advocates for breastfeeding support!” International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are an important part of the overall maternal and child health team by assuring that evidence-based policies and practices are in place to help mothers succeed with breastfeeding. The staff in the Maternity Suites department and the Breastfeeding Center at Kish Hospital helps new mothers to experience a safe, smooth transition into motherhood.
The KishHealth System Breastfeeding Center’s mission is to improve the health of women and children through education, support, and promotion of breastfeeding during pregnancy, the hospital stay, and after mom and baby go home. The Breastfeeding Center offers complimentary lactation consultations by appointment Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 4:30 pm; rounding on new moms on the unit; a warm line to answer breastfeeding questions; and a new moms’ support group held on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month.
KishHealth System is in the process of working on Baby Friendly designation to further promote the health of mothers and babies and increase breastfeeding rates.
