Looking for a special night out with one of America’s leading couples? Then check out Sycamore History Museum’s “Winter Fundraiser” featuring Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln! This Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore, Max and Donna Daniels, nationally known enactors, will present a special, intimate look into the lives of the Lincolns.
Mr. Lincoln, brought to life by Max Daniels, will discuss such subjects as his love for the law and his years riding the circuit as a lawyer in Illinois. He will outline some of the major issues of the day—the causes of the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the abolition of slavery in America.
Mrs. Lincoln will focus on the effects of the great conflict on families who were divided by war. As a leader of women, she will introduce us to their special role in the Civil War and in our recovery as a country. On a lighter note, she will also illustrate some of the major fashions of the day.
Max and Donna have an extensive background in community theatre and have been portraying Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln professionally since 1988. They have received awards for “Best Abraham,” “Best Mary,” and “Best Abraham and Mary Lincoln Team.” They have been featured on C-Span, and the Someone You Should Know program on ABC/Channel 7 in Chicago. They have performed at the Lincoln Home Visitor Center in Springfield and at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
Advance tickets for the program are $20 for an individual ticket or $30 for couples and will be available at the Sycamore History Museum or the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be available at the door for $25 per person or $40 per couple. The program starts at 7pm, and includes light refreshments and a silent auction. Funds raised will benefit the Sycamore History Museum, “Enriching public knowledge of Sycamore for people of all ages.” For more information call 815-895-5762 or visit sycamorehistory.org
