Memorial Day in DeKalb County


memorialday11The 2014 MAYORS’ MEMORIAL DAY BREAKFAST will be this Monday, May 26, 2014, Memorial Day, from 6:45am to 7:30am at Jane Fargo Hotel, 355 W. State Street, Sycamore, Illinois 60178. $10.00 per person RSVP prepaid, or pay $15.00 at the door.

Lieutenant Colonial (LTC) Christopher J. Clay US Army, Professor of Military Science at Loyola University Chicago, will be the keynote military speaker at the breakfast and other various locations in DeKalb County for Memorial Weekend 2014. LTC Clay will arrive in DeKalb County on Sunday afternoon, May 25th for a Welcome Barbeque and then stay the night at the Jane Fargo Hotel in Sycamore. On Memorial Day May 26th, Monday morning at 6:45am, he will attend the Mayors’ Memorial Day Breakfast at the Jane Fargo Hotel with a short program at 7:30am.

The purpose is to welcome our keynote military VIP Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Clay USA to northern Illinois and get more people to come out on Memorial Day. It gives everyone an opportunity to start the day together before they go off to the local communities for the other various ceremonies. A united prayer will be held at 7:15 a.m.

Head on over to DeKalb after the breakfast where they plan to give thanks and remember our veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country at 8:30am at the Memorial Tank at the corner of N. 1st & Lincoln Hwy in DeKalb. Then at 9:00am the Memorial Day Parade steps off at the corner of N. 3rd St and Lincoln Hwy. The Parade Route: W. Lincoln Hwy, N. 1st St, W. Locust St, N. Linden Place to the rear of the Ellwood House.

At 9:30am there will be a Memorial Day Program which will include a brief program on the Ellwood House east lawn. The program will feature a guest speaker, presentation of the American Legion Awards, and various musical selections. At 10:00am the Ellwood House will be giving tours (free of charge until 12:00 Noon).
