On Sunday, October 12, 2014, at 3:51 am, the DeKalb Police Department responded to a fight at 326 College Ave. Residents of 326 College advised while having a gathering with friends, several subjects attempted to enter their residence to join the party. When they were refused entry, the subjects started throwing items at the residence and banging on the house. The subjects left and returned shortly after with additional subjects. Residents of 326 College exited the house, confronted the group, and a fight ensued. Residents of 326 College then contacted police. On DeKalb Police Department’s arrival, the group had already left and were not located. A battery report was taken at that time.
Approximately 10 minutes later, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a vehicle stop in the 1400 Block of W. Lincoln Hwy for a traffic violation. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he found that an occupant of the vehicle had been stabbed. DeKalb Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to Kishwaukee Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A witness in this case led police to 326 College Ave., DeKalb advising it was the location in which the stabbing occurred.
Through investigation it was determined that a subject attending the gathering, Juan Rodriguez, was responsible for stabbing the victim. During the altercation, Rodriguez exited the house and approached the subjects involved in the fight. During the fight Rodriguez stabbed the victim in the lower torso area.
DeKalb Police made contact with Rodriguez on Monday evening and subsequently charged him with one count of Aggravated Battery – a Class 3 Felony. The investigation continues.
