Some say DeKalb County is a collar county of Chicago. We beg to differ. Look around and you’ll see plenty of farms and farmland.
It’s a fact: 88% of the land base in DeKalb County is classified as FARMLAND, comprising 370,772 acres.
DeKalb County has some of the best soils for growing corn and soybeans and the land is considered prime farmland.
Farms throughout the county generate millions in sales of agricultural products annually. Agriculture contributes significantly to the county’s economic well-being.

Only one in eight family farms is still prospering. It takes many farmers Two jobs to continue this amazing tradition.
I agree with Karie. Support local family farms that are actually providing food for this area. Eat Local DeKalb

DeKalb is a part of Chicago metro, which has nothing to do with the amount of farmland, it depends on the percentage of commuters heading out of the county to go East towards Chicago. If over 25% the county is included in the metro definition. It is a way of analyzing the workforce.
I notice alot of farm land around gets planted and never harvested too
