Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists recently held a community collection for Safe Passage. Numerous bags of diapers and wipes, along with an assortment of toiletries, personal care items, paper products and towels were delivered. Becky Salsberry with Safe Passage comments,
“We were in need of diapers, baby wipes and additional items and reached out to our friends at Northern Rehab. We are so thankful for the organization of this collection and are extremely grateful to the community for their generous donations. This support allows us to assist the well-being of our clients here at Safe Passage.” Pictured here are Safe Passage staff members Emily (left) and Shatoya (right) with Northern Rehab’s Director of Community Relations, Deb Loitz (center), holding just a few of the many baby items generously donated from the community to Safe Passage.
Safe Passage, located in DeKalb, helps women in abusive relationships and offers shelter, counseling, and support for those needing assistance. For more information about Safe Passage, please visit their web site at: www.safepassagedv.org or call the 24 hour hotline at 815.756.5228.
A Note from the Safe Passage Director, Mary Ellen Schaid:
“Like so many other human service organizations in Illinois, Safe Passage is struggling with the immense challenge of the state budget impasse. So far we are managing to keep all the beds in our Emergency Shelter for victims of domestic violence open, operating our 24 hour crisis line and providing all the counseling, advocacy and prevention education services that we offer to DeKalb County.
We are surviving but have burned through a small reserve fund, are keeping vacant management positions unfilled, are receiving a small portion of the federal grant funds we are due and relying on a line of credit. We are committed to keep going for the victims of domestic and sexual violence we serve but without the full funding we contract with the state to provide we won’t be able to operate like this indefinitely. If you can find it in your heart to help us maintain these services that people need to heal and become productive members of our community please give! Thank you!”
Northern Rehab extends their gratitude to all of the community members that donated items to support Safe Passage.
