Irving Family Challenge to help reinstate Tuesday Meals on Wheels

irvingvacdonationSteve and TJ Irving and their family have announced that they will match donations made to Meals on Wheels for the restoration of Tuesday meal delivery service. They will match, dollar for dollar, up to $17,250. This donation will fund the $34,500 needed to provide Tuesday meal service through June 30th, 2016.

VAC, the nonprofit transportation and social service agency that serves DeKalb County, announced in mid-October that it needed to reduce Meals on Wheels service to four days a week in DeKalb, Sycamore, Cortland, Sandwich, Malta and Somonauk. Tuesday meal deliveries were suspended on November 3rd.

Meals on Wheels serves from 600 to 700 people a year in DeKalb County. Most of the people who rely on the service are 80 or older and have a fixed income. Many have limited Social Security benefits and no family in the area.

Donating to help out is easy! Make your donation to Voluntary Action Center designating the gift to the Irving Family Challenge. For donations made by check or cash, visit for VAC’s address. To donate via PayPal or any credit card, visit the GoFundMe account here.
