While the construction season is almost over, orange signs will still pop up on various roads over the next few weeks. County and Township crews will continue to work on miscellaneous projects until the snow starts to fly. Please keep an eye open for construction workers.
The South Paw Paw Road bridges west of Rollo, IL are almost completed. The seeding should be completed within a week and the bridgerail/guardrail will be completed within the next two weeks.
The Coltonville Road bridge over the Kishwaukee River is the other on-going bridge project. The contractor has completed the substructure and is currently working on the deck. The 228’ long bridge deck will take approximately a month of good weather to prepare until the concrete can be poured. If the weather cooperates, we hope to have the bridge open by late December. Whether or not the bridge is opened to traffic this year, we anticipated work on the road and ditches to occur in the spring.
In preparation for the upcoming jail expansion, the County is rebuilding and expanding the parking lot east of the Sycamore Public Library. The new parking lot will accommodate 68 vehicles, far more than the 22 of the old parking lot. This work will partially replace the 100 parking spaces being lost by the jail expansion. The remainder of the 100 parking spaces will be built at the east end of the jail project.
Also this fall, improved stormwater management will occur through two detention ponds near Walnut Street. These ponds are designed to help with the stormwater management of the proposed jail. The contractor is expecting to have the parking lot paved this year. Smaller details of the project may be completed during spring. Although not on a County Highway, the Highway Department is overseeing the construction of this parking lot and associated detention ponds.
