bikingwithbeanzieBiking with Beanzie (BWB) is a recreational ride presented by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and sponsored by Kishwaukee Community Hospital. The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with estimated ride options of 25, 46, 62, 80 or 101 miles. Past rides have gone through scenic Lake Shabbona State Park and the Lee County windmill farm. All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor.

There are also 3, 5 and 8-mile family/community bicycle pathway routes. All ride routes are provided with rest stops and water stops, regardless of the length of the route chosen. Bagels, fruit, beverages and a variety of other food options will be provided at rest stops. Our ride is easy to navigate with well-marked routes, route maps, and cue sheets. Friendly sag wagon drivers are knowledgeable about the route and bicycling. Community vendors and food vendors will also be available following the ride. As a rider of the Biking with Beanzie event, you will be investing in our Community. BWB is a “family” event that promotes fitness and family fun. Profits from this ride go to support the Kishwaukee Bike Pathway Projects and other projects within DeKalb County. Sixty miles west of Chicago and 30 miles southeast of Rockford, the city of DeKalb is the home of a summer biking adventure. Founded in 1969, the Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb, IL, presents its 18 th Biking with Beanzie Bicycle Ride on Sunday, July 17, 2016. The Beanzie ride is co-sponsored by KishHealth System, now part of Northwestern Medicine.

Beanzie is a family friendly, recreational ride with varying distances to suit the novice to the experienced rider. The Beanzie ride is well organized and supported by Kishwaukee Kiwanis, our local Kiwanis Family (the Key Club and the AKtion Club), and partnering service groups (4-H and the DeKalb HS Honor Society). For several years, Kishwaukee Kiwanis also has partnered with the Rescue Rider Motorcyclists and the Wild Roses of Women on Wheels for a portion of the SAG support.

bikingwithbeanzieParticipants are encouraged to register early: either online or by mail. Registration also is available for walk-ups the day of the event. You can choose a road ride of approximately 23, 43, 63, 80, or 101 miles with well-marked directional and humorous signage throughout. Registration includes cue sheets for the routes, a number of rest stops with refreshments, SAG Support (Support ‘n Gear), a Beanzie t-shirt (guaranteed with preregistration only), post-ride access to showers, and tasty food options.

For the novice or younger families, off-road routes are offered that follow a local bike pathway. Distances of 3, 5, and 8 miles can be chosen on the bike pathways with the cost of $10.

On July 17, 2016, Biking with Beanzie starts and ends at DeKalb High School, 501 W. Dresser Rd., DeKalb, IL 60115. Save $10 with preregistration by July 7 with the cost of $27. Late and “day of” registration is $37 (July 8-17). Registration is free for children 12 and under when riding with a parent or guardian.
