The 35th Annual IDEAg Northern Illinois Farm Show will be held this Wednesday and Thursday, January 11th and 12th at the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb. The DeKalb area is a convenient venue for producers in all of Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin and Eastern Iowa to meet with over 200 agribusinesses under one roof.  This is Midwest farmers’ chance to visit with the top agribusinesses of the area and participate in discussions on everything from weather preparedness to weed management decisions.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will also conduct its annual Pesticide Applicator Training on both Wednesday and Thursday. See below for a full schedule of events during the Show.  Hours are Wednesday, Jan 11: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Thursday, Jan 12: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.. Admission is free, $5/car for parking. The NIU Convocation Center is located at 1525 W. Lincoln Hwy. in DeKalb.

Family Farm and Landowner Succession Planning: “We’re All Set” – Set To Succeed OR Set To Fail?

Studies have shown that 70% of the family farm and landowner succession plans fail to result in successful transfers from the 1st generation to the 2nd; from the 2nd generation to the 3rd the failure rate is much worse – 90%.

Ms. Savko will discuss the rights of Landowners in an attempt to protect their property from damages in regards to right-of-ways from electrical transmission lines, pipelines, wind farms, and Rail Roads.

1:00 p.m. Long Range Weather Outlook

Speaker: Mark Henderson Chief Meteorologist for WIFR TV in Rockford, IL

Mark will take a look at what the rest of the winter looks like for the state line area and see if there are any trends showing up that could have an impact for the spring.

10:00 a.m. 2017 Interest Rates and Land Values

Speakers: Adam Gaskill Senior Financial Analyst, Mike Morris Chief Appraiser, and Todd Slock Appraiser with 1st Farm Credit Services

The specialists will discuss where the interest rates are headed this winter and what they are seeing in land values as we move forward into 2017.
