League of Women Voters Hosts Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters of DeKalb County is hosting two candidate forums for the upcoming election. The first forum will be this Thursday, February 23rd at DeKalb’s City Hall, 400 S. 4th St., beginning at 6:30 pm. It will feature candidates for alderman in DeKalb for the 2nd, 4th and 6th Wards, DeKalb mayor, city clerk and candidates for the contested race for Afton Township highway commissioner.

The second forum will be held on Tuesday, February 28th, again at DeKalb’s City Hall beginning at 6:30 pm. Candidates for DeKalb School District 428 board will appear at that forum. Residents of Malta and Cortland concerned about the schools are encouraged to attend. There also will be information about the ballot initiative for the DeKalb County Public Health Tax Levy.

Audience members may submit questions at the door for both forums. Those wishing to submit questions should plan to arrive no later than 6:20 pm and keep questions short.  Audience members also should write questions that all candidates can answer, not ones that are directed only at one candidate personally. The League will provide other tips on how to write good questions at the door. Residents planning to watch at home or online can submit questions via email by midnight the night before each event at leagueofdekalbcounty@gmail.com.

The forums will be broadcast live on public access TV, Channel 14. There also will be live video streaming online at www.cityofdekalb.com.
