Kishwaukee Fest & Banconpalooza Returns This Week


Kishwaukee Fest and Baconpalooza-Swine & Wine will return to DeKalb County in 2017 according to Executive Director Michael Embrey. The days for Kishwaukee Fest of DeKalb County will be Monday, July 24 to Sunday, July 30, with most events free for spectators.

The festivals start on Monday, July 24 with a new event called “East End Block Party”, a celebration of stores, restaurants and attractions from 4th Street to 7th Street on East Lincoln Highway (ILL. Rt. 38). This evening event will showcase Fargo Skateboarding the new Skateboard Park, dance demonstrations by students from Dance Dimensions and open houses for many of the businesses. On Tuesday there will be a celebration for the younger people called “Family FUN Fest” followed by the DeKalb Community Band Concert at Hopkins Park in DeKalb.

Wednesday, July 26, will be the new “Music at the Mansion” concert at the Ellwood Mansion. This 7:00 PM in the evening concert is “Jazz at the Mansion” and features the Mary J Harris Trio in selections of old standards and smooth jazz. On Thursday, July 27, the Sycamore Park District presents the Lisa Renee Band in concert at their Summer Concert Series.

Friday evening, July 28th, will be the big ‘Parade of Parades’ in downtown DeKalb. This 7:00 PM Parade is truly a ‘Norman Rockwell’ type of event with Military groups, floats, Bands, tractors, Pageant Queens, Drum Corps, youth groups and some special surprises including an appearance from Santa. Following the Parade there will be an old fashion Street Dance in the downtown area.

The big event on Saturday will be Baconpalooza-Swine and Wine Fest. This event will feature select wine vendors, unique bacon food vendors, specialty craft vendors and a Corvette Show. Part of the day’s attraction will be a Skate Board contest, with entry levels for all age classes. The evening event will feature a road rally of classic cars through the county.

Sunday will be the award winning “Turning Back Time Car Show” in Sycamore, IL, with over 600 classic and antique cars. Kishwaukee Fest of DeKalb County has combined attractions to make a week long celebration, not only for local residences but tourists from several states.
