The DeKalb Park District will be hosting a grand opening of the newly renovated Lion’s Park on Saturday, July 22nd at 9:00am. The community is invited to explore all the new park features and participate in some fun games and activities. The renovation project includes a new playground and open-air shelter, a loop trail, basketball court, volleyball court, bags game and stone outcropping along the river.
The event will include a ribbon cutting followed by family-oriented games and activities including volleyball, bags competition, horseshoe games and more! The playground and trails are open and refreshments will be provided.
The renovation of Lion’s Park was made possible through an OLSAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition & Development) grant that is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. OSLAD projects vary from small neighborhood parks to large community and county parks and nature areas.
DeKalb’s Lions Park is located at 700 W. Taylor Street. The OSLAD grant program is funded through real estate transfer taxes, which are dedicated for this purpose.
