Arrest Made in Tuesday’s Shooting in DeKalb


On October 8th , 2017, officers responded to the 800 block of Greenbrier Road in
reference to reports of gun shots being fired. Officers located several witnesses/victims
and initiated an investigation. Upon searching the area that witnesses directed officers
to several spent shell casings and other items of evidence were located. It was learned
that as the victims were walking from the area of Hillcrest Drive to Greenbrier, a group
began to follow them. When the victims questioned who they were, one of the subjects
from the group displayed a handgun and began shooting at them. The group of
suspects then fled the area. There were no reported injuries and with assistance from
community members, officers obtained a vehicle description used by the suspects to
flee the area following the shooting.

Through investigation, officers identified the subject responsible for the shooting as Michael Distasio, from North Aurora, IL. On October 10th an arrest warrant was issued for Distasio for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm with the bond set at $100,000 Dollars.

With assistance of the Aurora Police Department, Distasio was located and arrested in Aurora, Illinois in the evening hours of October 11th . On October 12th the vehicle used during the commission of this offense was located and seized as evidence.

The investigation into this shooting is ongoing.
ARRESTED: Michael Distasio, 19 years of age, resides in the 600 block of Thompson Ave in North Aurora, Illinois. Distasio is currently incarcerated at the Kane County Jail.
