How many nonprofits are located in DeKalb County? How many people work for nonprofits in our local communities? Is the nonprofit sector growing? What are the greatest challenges facing nonprofits in DeKalb County? How do nonprofits determine what programs and services to offer?

These are just a few of the questions answered in the 2017-18 DeKalb County Nonprofit Study, which is available now.

The new study is the second iteration of a three-part series that offers unprecedented insight into the local nonprofit sector. The original study was completed in 2015 and was prompted by requests from local nonprofit leaders who sought detailed information to assist in decision making, for bench-marking purposes, and when composing funding proposals.

“The 2015 study has proven to be a reliable source of information for 4-C over the last few years and this new report is a valuable and timely update,” said Susan Petersen, Executive Director of Community Coordinated Child Care (4-C). “We appreciate having this resource at our fingertips.”

The research was conducted by the Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies at Northern Illinois University in consultation with the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership (DCNP). The project is supported by grant funding from the Douglas C. and Lynn M. Roberts Family Foundation.
