Fire Hydrant Accessibility

With the forecast of deep measurable snow, the DeKalb Fire Department is asking residents to help make fire hydrants accessible after each snowfall. Critical time is lost during an emergency when fire crews must locate and make usable a fire hydrant buried in snow. Life and Property could be saved, if the fire hydrant near you is visible and accessible.

Residents can perform a valuable public service by clearing the snow from around a fire
hydrant. Do not stack or pile snow on a fire hydrant when you are clearing your parking area, driveway, or sidewalk.

If you need assistance with cleaning snow from your hydrant, please contact the DeKalb Fire Department at (815)748-8460.

  1. But please! Take your dog away from the door at the apartment buildings! You have the dog, you must walk the dog. Be responsible for your dog. And be sure to clean their poor paws off when you come in. They can get sore and cracked from the ice and snow.
