DeKalb County History Center One-Year Anniversary

One year ago, the DeKalb County History Center was formed by combining the Sycamore History Museum and the Joiner History Room in an expanded Sycamore campus.

To mark the occasion, they recapped all of the progress and achievements from the past year and revealed pictures of the new 7,600 square foot facility that is due to be completed later this month.

What a year it has been!

  • DCHC has raised $1.2 million, of its $1.5 million “History Matters” capital campaign. Learn more about the campaign, here. To make a contribution online and join DeKalb County history today, visit DeKalbCountyHistory.org.
  • new website was launched complete with online exhibits, archival databases, and information about History Partners and their events.
  • Construction of the new facility will wrap up at the end of March. The new building includes the Joiner History Room and its extensive archival collection, a multi-purpose room, exhibit space, and collection storage space that will meet the needs of this growing organization.
  • DCHC was recognized with an Award of Excellence by the Illinois Association of Museums.
  • Educational resources focused on local history are being developed to help teachers meet their curriculum goals.
  • The History Center and its partners are working together as part of the inaugural exhibit, a traveling Smithsonian display titled “Crossroads: Change in Rural America.”
  • The Grand Opening is scheduled for May 11!
