Body of Missing Genoa Teen Identified


The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday, June 17, 2019 that the body found in a field in Genoa, IL on Friday is Joseph (Joey) Maynard, the 19-year-old Genoa resident who had been missing since March.

The body was discovered in the morning of June 14th in a field near the Ellwood Greens Subdivision in Genoa. On Monday, the DeKalb County Coroner identified the remains as that of Maynard.

The teen was last seen alive on Friday, March 8 around noon at the BP Gas Station on Main Street in Genoa. The body was found about a half mile from his home. The cause of death was determined to be exposure.

Police said there were no visible signs of injury to the body and there is no suspicion of foul play. Toxicology tests are pending.
