DeKalb County Community Gardens Update

The DeKalb County Community Gardens has issued an update for future delivery and the need for additional food. The mandate for the statewide stay at home and the escalating unemployment in DeKalb County has seen the need for local food providers to have more supplies in residential food needs.

DCCG is also working with Voluntary Action Center and Elder Care Services of DeKalb to ensure homebound seniors are receiving groceries and or hot meals. DCCG has delivered grocery boxes to seniors with underlying health conditions who are not leaving their homes.

There will be Grow Mobile events on Saturday, 3/28/2020. One from 9:30 to 11:30 AM (or until boxes have all been distributed) at Clinton Rosette Middle School 650 North 1st Street, DeKalb.  This will be a drive-thru, individuals should have their cars ready to receive pre-packed boxes. They are to remain in their cars, and trunks and back of cars should be ready to receive the boxes from volunteers. People will need to supply name, zip code and a number of individuals in their household.

Also Saturday, the Grow Mobile will be distributing in Malta from 2:00-4:00 PM (or until all boxes have been distributed) at the Malta Historical Building, located at 127 North 3rd Street, Malta. This event will be sponsored by the Malta Lions.

Then the Grow Mobile is scheduled to be at University Village next Friday, April 3, 3:00-5:00 PM. Usual location by the basketball courts. Individuals will receive pre-packed boxes and when waiting should practice safe-distance by standing six (6) feet apart.

The Grow Mobile is also continuing its deliveries to Colonial House Apartments in DeKalb. If elderly individuals are in need of grocery deliveries they can contact Elder Care Services at 815-758-6550.  For information on hot meal deliveries please contact Voluntary Action Center (VAC) at 815-758-3932. Any requests for groceries will be referred to DCCG.
