City of DeKalb First Ward Councilmember Carolyn Morris wants all citizens to support the DeKalb County Day of Giving, May 7th. “There are many great non-profits that need our support, and it is important to support a cause that is important to you as a resident of the City of DeKalb,” comments Morris. “This year I am pledging $1,000.00 to Safe Passage in memory of Stacia Hollinshead.”

Stacia Hollinshead was allegedly murdered by her ex-husband in a domestic concern in March 2019.  Hollinshead was only 30 years old. She lived in Sycamore and had been working as an assistant state’s attorney for DeKalb County. She was sworn in as an attorney in Illinois in October after graduating from NIU’s law school in May 2018. Hollinshead was a U.S. Army intelligence analyst for 11 years, and a graduate of the Northern Illinois University College of Law.

“Safe Passage is an organization that promotes the right of all to non-violent and abuse-free relationships through advocacy, intervention, and prevention in DeKalb County” states Morris.   “They provide a wide range of services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. My donation is dedicated to the memory of my very special friend Stacia Hollinshead.”

Safe Passage provides services including crisis intervention, medical advocacy for victims, short and long-term housing for survivors and their children, counseling, legal advocacy, children’s services, prevention programming, and a partner abuse intervention program. All services are free and confidential to all survivors!
