Association of Horizon is a volunteer-led organization, comprised of a Board of Directors, volunteers and local partners, who leverage their talent, network, and resources to advance the organization’s mission to empower and enrich the lives of adults with physical disabilities.
It is a place where adults with and without physical disabilities empower and enrich the lives of one another through lifelong friendships and recreation. Summer Camp, the organization’s flagship program, is Horizon’s primary vehicle for bringing life
As one volunteer so accurately expressed, “You know that awkward moment when people do not know how to interact with someone with a disability? That disappears at Horizon Camp. People see [one another for] what they have in common, not their differences.”
Summer Camp
Summer camp is a week-long camp where adults with physical disabilities team up with able-bodied volunteers for a week of recreation, learning, and fun. Located in Hudson, Illinois on the beautiful shoreline of Lake Bloomington, Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is a fully accessible
Participants will take part in multiple adapted sports including swimming, archery, canoeing, paintball, and horseback riding in a safe, beautiful setting. Campers and volunteers also enjoy performing arts, live entertainment, and educational workshops. Horizon camp creates and fosters a positive, inclusive, and empowering environment to all and is offered FREE of charge to all participants.
Fall Weekend
Not cut out for a full week of camp in the summer? Horizon offers a fall weekend camp experience that is held in late September early October each year. Fall Weekend is a condensed version of the summer camp in a smaller more intimate setting. Participants enjoy 2 days and 2 nights sitting around campfires, playing board/card games and working on an arts and crafts project. Fall weekend also takes place at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center, in Hudson, Illinois. Applications come out in August each year.
Volunteer
Each camper is assigned a one-on-one attendant. The camp attendant is responsible for assisting the camper with their daily needs and helping him or her enjoy camp activities. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to help.
All new camp volunteers will attend an orientation session, held prior to camp to prepare you.
Anyone 16 years or older, who is able to donate a week of their time and energy is welcome to apply to be a camp attendant. Volunteers under 18 years of age are required to have the consent of an adult or legal guardian.

The organization is volunteer-run which depends on your generous donation to provide its annual camps to adults with disabilities and volunteers.
