The Beth Fowler Dance Company of Genoa and St. Charles will present the Sleeping Beauty ballet at the Egyptian Theatre this weekend. With the beautiful dancing, costumes and stage sets, this classic ballet will tell a story that everyone will enjoy.
The ballet based on a classic fairy tale is a masterpiece of dance drama created in the 19th century through a collaboration of ballet master Marius Petipa and Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky. The ballet is now seen and heard throughout the world, delighting young and old with the magic and wonder of the young Princess who slept 100 years and is awakened by the kiss of a Prince.
Company member Zoe Hamilton will dance the title role as Princess Aurora. She has performed many principal roles for the Beth Fowler Dance Company, most recently as the Snow Queen in this season’ s “The Nutcracker”. Guest artist Brian Connor will perform as Prince Florimundo. He is in the dance program at NIU and performed recently as the Nutcracker Prince in the Beth Fowler Dance Company’s production of “The Nutcracker”.
Other principal dancers are company members Miranda Simek as the Lilac Fairy and Molly Smith as Carabosse, who portray the struggle between good and evil. The Bluebird pas de deux in the wedding scene will be performed by company dancers Larry Pool and Hannah Smith, who is the current reigning Miss Illinois.
The audience will be delighted to see favorite story book characters who are special guests at the wedding of Sleeping Beauty and the Prince. Company members performing these roles are Sydney Campbell as Red Riding Hood and Ashleigh Rodriguez as the Wolf; Guest artist Ryan Jordan as Puss In Boots and Mary Rose Fair as the White Cat; Keeley Sawyer as Snow White, who brings along the Seven Dwarfs and Allix Sester as Cinderella, accompanied by her mice friends and Meagan Elsenbroek as her cat Lucifer.
Company dancers will perform as soloists in the Fairy Court and in the corps de ballet. Dancers from the Beth Fowler School of Dance will perform the children’s roles. Original choreography is by Marius Petipa. Additional choreography is by Beth Fowler, Miranda Simek, Hannah Smith and Ashleigh Rodriguez. Costume coordinator is Madlyn Steffey and volunteer coordinator is Britni Michael.

The Beth Fowler Dance Company will present “The Sleeping Beauty” at DeKalb’s Egyptian Theatre on Friday, March 16th at 7:00 P.M. ; Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. and Sunday March 18th at 2:00 P.M.
