February and March are busy months for fundraisers for DeKalb County nonprofit organizations. Below is a rundown of many of these events coming up around the area in the coming weeks. These are great excuses to get out of the house and warm your heart during the cold winter months.

February 15 – Safe Passage, LOVE: Love Over Violence Event
DeKalb County’s domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center, will host a Valentine’s Day themed fundraiser at Blumen Gardens in Sycamore. and will include an evening of hearty appetizers, drinks, dancing, and a date-themed basket raffle. Additionally, Glidden Florist of DeKalb has donated their time and resources to provide a bouquet-building station for the guests. Last day to pre-purchase tickets online is February 14.
February 16 – Pay It Forward BBQ Benefit Dinner at Sycamore VFW
Come for an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner benefiting Pay-It-Forward House catered by the Country Store & Catering! Menu includes: Barbecue Chicken & Rib Tips, Rotisserie Pork Sandwiches, Country Style Baked Beans, Steakhouse Potato Salad, Creamy Apple Coleslaw, Rolls, Brownies, Cherry and Apple Pie Squares!
February 22 – Micah Kurtzman Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction
Micah Kurtzman, a Boy Scout out of troop 16 in Sycamore is having a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction to raise funds for his Eagle Scout Project. His project will be building 3 large storage shelves for Littlejohn Elementary in DeKalb. The estimated cost for the project is around $1,100. The dinner is free with donation and the silent auction will also be helping a variety of small, locally owned businesses in the community.
February 23 – Genoa-Kingston Fire Dept Annual Chili Supper
Come and support your local Fire Dept while enjoying chili, salad, and desserts with your community. The fun starts at 4 p.m. at the local Genoa Vets Home located at 311 S Washington St., Genoa.
February 23 – 7th Annual Bowling Fundraiser for HorsePower Therapeutic Riding
Doors open 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Bowl for the fundraiser that helps support HorsePower in Maple Park and provide scholarships for the families they serve. Throughout the event there will be Cupcake Sales, Silent Auctions, Bucket Raffle, Wine Grab Table, Face Painting Table and 50/50 Raffle Sales.
March 1 – Friends of the Sycamore Library BBQ Dinner
Sycamore Public Library needs help funding new windows and other capital projects in their historic Carnegie Building! Join the Friends of the Sycamore Library for a tasty all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner sponsored by the Country Store and Catering to help fund these projects! Dinner will take place at the Sycamore Veteran’s Club at 121 S. California St, Sycamore.
March 9 – Tropical Tails
Their largest annual fundraiser for Tails Humane Society, Tropical Tails is an exciting dinner and auction that celebrates the life-saving work they do while raising critical funds to continue their mission. It takes place in the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the NIU Holmes Student Center.
March 9 – Kingston American Legion Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner
Takes place at the Kingston Friendship Center in Kingston. Event includes a 50/50 raffle and a meat raffle. Proceeds fund high school scholarships and local youth sports teams.
March 15 – 9th Annual Royal Children’s Ball
The DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau presents an enchanting night filled with family and royal fun at the NIU castle, Altgeld Hall. There will be a Royal Salon, face painting, crafts, games, finger foods, dancing, Balloon animals, and a cozy story corner. Don’t miss out on James the Magician, a performance from Dimensions Dance Academy and a chance to meet every princess from Cinderella to Elsa!
March 15 – Sycamore Vets Club Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner
Join the Sycamore Veterans for great food and entertainment. Meal included corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, roll & dessert. All proceeds benefit their members and their families during their annual kids Christmas party. The Firefighters Highland Guard will perform at 6 p.m.
March 17 – 36th Annual Indian Creek CCC People-For-People Auction
Lunch served at 11:30 a.m. by Indian Creek Music Boosters. Auction starts at 12:30 p.m. All proceeds from this auction go towards programs/items for the K-12 students in the Indian Creek School District #425. Event will take place at Indian Creek Middle School.
