Police officials wrote in a Monday news release are urging people to wear their seat belts and to make a plan for a sober drive home. More than 30% of motor vehicle crash deaths in Illinois involve an alcohol-impaired driver and data shows drug-involved driving is on the rise, per the news release.
The DeKalb Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies in a statewide effort to step up seat belt and impaired driving enforcement. Motorists will see this increase in safety patrols from Nov. 20 through the early morning hours of Nov. 30.
