Today is the Grand Opening of DeKalb County’s newest restaurant Raising Cane’s. “We are excited to be open and able to provide the citizens of DeKalb County the best chicken ever,” commented Joe Ross, the Manager of the newest Raising Cane. “We are committed to be offering the best chicken fingers and top quality service to our customers.”
The story of how the franchise started is an entrepreneurial dream adventure. The Founder, Todd Graves (Founder, CEO, Fry Cook & Cashier) concepts for the future fast-food restaurant received the worst grade in his college business planning class. To prove the professor wrong Graves applied for a bank loan to start the business. He was turned down by almost every bank in town. He took a job as a boilermaker in L.A. refineries and the following year as a commercial fisherman in Alaska to raise money to start the restaurant. His first store was in Baton Rouge near his former university (LSU). There are now over 500 ‘Raising Cane’ restaurants in America. So much for the professor’s understanding of business development – book learning vs the real world.
The name for the restaurant came from his dog, Raising Cane.
