Kishwaukee College is holding a free information session on the summer Short-Term Training Programs on Wednesday, April 11, at 6:00p.m. in Room B2303 at the College. The programs being offered this summer are: Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Dental Assistant. All programs will begin the week of May 7 and complete by August 22.
Short-Term Training are non-credit programs that prepare students for a variety of entry-level positions. The training prepares students to work in the field and to pass national certification testing.
Short-Term Training programs often provide a path to a skilled position that can act as a gateway to further career development. All three of the programs being offered this summer combine classroom learning with externships for practical application and experience. Externship placement assistance is provided by Kish College.
Phlebotomy Technicians are healthcare professionals who obtain and prepare specimens for laboratory processing. Traditionally, Phlebotomist Technicians are associated with drawing and preparing blood in hospitals, clinics, or physician’s offices. However, Phlebotomists can be employed in a wide variety of fields that work with any bodily fluids that can be laboratory tested.
Pharmacy Technicians are health care professionals who have been trained to assist pharmacists to dispense prescription medication. Depending on the position, the technician may also manage third- party billing, answer telephones, direct customers to items or to the pharmacist for medication consultation, receive written prescriptions, clean and sterilize dispensing bottles and instruments, answer questions regarding non-drug products, and operate a cash register.
Dental Assistants provide quality preventative and corrective dental care under direct supervision of the dentist or dental hygienist. The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting dentists and dental hygienists with patient care, as well as providing administrative support to the office.
