DeKalb Area Women’s Center (DAWC) will be giving out free winter coats to anyone in the community that needs them, this Saturday, November 23rd at their facility at 1021 State St. in DeKalb. Distribution will be from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. A free coat to anyone who shows up – no paperwork. Any coats not distributed on that day will be re-donated to other locations around the area that provide free winter outerwear to those in need.
The DeKalb Area Women’s Center is an all volunteer community center that advocates for women and related issues. They offer a variety of programming throughout the year, including their winter outerwear drive.
The DAWC was helped in their collection of coats by the Sigma Lambda Sigma sorority. Sigma Lambda Sigma is a service sorority that was founded at NIU in 1963. Each member completes 35 hours of community service per semester. They participate in different volunteer opportunities around campus and around the community to make a positive impact on those around us.
