Project Prom is working to make the annual high school dance more affordable for area teens. The Northern Illinois University Honors Program, the Women’s Resource Center and a student group, Mortar Board, are collaborating to to collect donated prom dresses, shoes, jewelry and other accessories for area high school students.
The project gives women and girls an opportunity to recycle their gently-used gowns and bridesmaid dresses. It also gives girls who may not be able to afford a prom dress, accessories and shoes a chance to find and try on outfits she can take home free of charge.
Girls can come to Conexion Comunidad, 637 N. 11th St. in DeKalb this Saturday and Sunday, February 19th and 20th, between 1-5pm to try on and pick out their dresses. If you want to donate, the following places are accepting drop off items between 8am- 4:30pm Monday through Friday. The collection of dresses and accessories ends at 4pm this Thursday, February 17th.
