2017 is the 56th Annual Pumpkin Festival in downtown Sycamore. The theme for this year’s Sycamore Pumpkin Festival is “Pumpkins Across the Decades”.
What started out as an idea by Wally Thurow in 1956 to offer something creative for the students of Sycamore, has grown from a neighborhood display on his front yard into the towns biggest city wide event beginning this Wednesday, October 25th with the Opening Ceremony and cake cutting. Kick-off Pumpkin Festival in Sycamore during the downtown Trick-or-Treating event on Wednesday. Downtown businesses will hand out tasty treats from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Then make your way to the courthouse lawn for the giant cake cutting!
Pumpkin Festival goes for five whole days and ends on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The festival has over 1000 entries in the Lions Decorated Pumpkin Display on the Courthouse lawn, 2 carnivals, 2 large indoor craft shows, many non-profit vendors, and it concludes with a spectacular, historically long (2 1/2 hr.) parade on Sunday.
Saturday entertainment for Oct. 28, 2017 will be Istvan & His Imaginary Band from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Magician Jeff Bibik from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Somonauk and State. The performances are free, so come on down! The Saturday Marquee Events are sponsored by KishHealth Systems, UPSTAGING, and First Midwest Bank.
Thousands of pumpkins, all painted or carved for judging, decorate the courthouse lawn, and food vendors dish up pumpkin pie, caramel apples and other fall favorites all week long. Also in this pumpkin patch: two arts-and-crafts shows, carnival rides, a historic house walk, 10K Pumpkin Run road race and the giant 2 ½-hour-long parade, starting at 1:00 on Sunday.
